Penny Ashton, aka Hot Pink has been performing since before she could walk.
Her mother knew she was in for trouble from the moment Penny ate her first lipstick, pulled on her first tutu and declared herself a ballerina. After abandoning this career due to her pesky need to eat, Penny changed tack to become the full-time actor, comedienne, poet, improviser and writer she is today.
Since then she has been nominated 4 times for New Zealand’s top comedy awards and in 2003 won a world Theatresports Championship in Canada.
She has performed her own unique brand of comedy all over NZ and in Canada, USA, Australia, England and Scotland and has been invited to perform a season in Singapore in 2005.
Her 2004 Edinburgh season was a great critical success achieving fantastic reviews, enticing comedy poetry legend Pam Ayres into her audience and securing an invitation to appear again in 2005.
Penny is also an accomplished actor with stints on Shortland St, Power Rangers and a new TV comedy pilot called Talent under her belt.
Oh and she’s the Scotchbrite Fairy Godmother too, but don’t tell anyone.
Penny's going to be writing a weekly column on nzgirl, catch it right here every Thursday! Or if you're feeling nosy, head to her website - www.hotpink.co.nz
