About You
Keep Yourself Well

Flu Jab? Vitamin pills? What are you doing this winter to keep yourself healthy?
Protect yourself this year, by keeping your immune system up with plenty of fresh fruit. Stay active, a lot of people hibernate in winter and while it seems like the cosiest option to stay in bed, it’s a good idea to go for a brisk walk instead. Wash your hands and keep your nails clean. This seems simple, but it is proven that flu germs spread via door handles and hand rails.

Unless you feel like there’s a rock in your chest, don’t go flying into the doctors at the first sniffle. With the fees that the doctors charge, which can range from $15 to $50 an appointment, you’re better of putting that towards some fresh fruit and vegetables. Go to the supermarket and buy up on lemons, oranges and honey to make a soothing drink.

As for all those lozenges and cough medicines, they don’t actually contain the magic recipe and the virus will last just the same amount of time. Let the flu run its course and get some decent tissues instead of pills. With your lemon, orange and honey drink and soft aloe vera tissues, you’ll feel better in no time.

If you know that you are asthmatic or have bronchitis then by all means, head straight for the doctor. If not though, try and cope with the runny nose and tickly throat by yourself. Beyond that, grab a blanket, some DVDs and stay rugged up at home in front of the heater. Take the day off work, chill out, and try not to infect the rest of us!

Hot, soothing lemon drink:
  • 1 lemon
  • 2 oranges
  • 1 teaspoon of honey
  • Hot water

Squeeze the lemon and oranges in to a cup, to about a ¼ of a cup. Add boiling hot water to fill the cup, and then stir in a teaspoon of honey. Drink slowly and often.
