Prepare for Winter: Part Three

Sunshine is good for us. It is our Vitamin D that helps absorb Calcium and phosphorous for strong and healthy teeth and bones.

Sunshine keeps a smile on our face most of the time and when summer kicks in, it means a general good feeling in us all!

However, summer has been and gone and we are now heading into winter. Keeping positive and radiant during this time can be extremely difficult. In part one and two of this Winter Survival guide we have covered sorting your home and wardrobe out to make life a little easier, however that may not be enough. So part three of this guide is about keeping happy and positive in a natural way.

Body care
Our bodies are our temples and we should treasure and honour them. This means looking after them and keeping them in top shape even during the yucky winter months. All very well for me to spout off what we should be doing, actually achieving some of these goals is easier said than done right? WRONG. Absolutely wrong, why change the way you do things in winter, just because it is cold?

Think back to the summer months. All those luscious body scrubs, pedicures, manicures, facials? Remember how sexy and gorgeous you felt after these routines? Remember how great it felt after a work out at the gym? How you melted away the extra kilos and how amazing you looked? The warm weather may be in hibernation but this is a perfect opportunity to keep working on your health. Prime it up so there is less hard work to do when summer does arrive. Who wants to spend the start of summer dieting and detoxing because of the couch time investment you made in winter?

Walking in a Winter Wonderland
Winter is a time to wrap up warm and brave the elements. Sure staying at home and entertaining friends with girly DVDs and sleepovers is fun, but the fresh cool air (when the weather isn’t completely disgusting) is so good for you - mind as well as body. Use up those lush moisturisers and lip balms and get out and about. Even if it’s just meeting friends for a coffee try and walk somewhere every fine winter day there is. Really make the most of the only time of year you can wear a hat, gloves and scarf and look deliciously trendy and cool while you’re at it!

Selfish Solitude
Winter is an awesome time for reflection. Even if you are motivated to get out and about your friends might not want to. On these occasions with nothing to do, take some time out for reflection. Think about your friends and your family, your job or course of study. Are you on the right path, are there things in your life that you are not happy with? Are you happy in your relationship? Are there toxic people pretending to be friends that need to be cleansed from your life? All of these things that receive little attention in the summer due to the social butterfly occupation we adopt deserve consideration now. Some of us might have kept journals when we were younger, why not reinvent a diary (just like Bridget) and get those feelings down on paper. Work out your life and fix the bits that don’t operate well anymore so that you are left with a hassle free winter with little to do except enjoy.
