Honestly, the way I carry on you would think we lived in the middle of the Arctic Circle!
One thing however, that I fail to do every winter, is prepare for it. For summer most of us really get into the preparations of firming and toning up, body scrubs and pedicures and all those things we let slide in winter.
By the time summer does arrive we are honed and toned and ready to embrace the sunshine.
How about though, if we prepared for winter? Think back to the things that made us wish it were summer, changing the energy back to positive though, so we can at least brace ourselves for the chill ahead.
This week the focus is on our surroundings, predominantly our homes if you have your own or even your bedroom if you are lucky enough to live with your parents
Starting from the front door and working your way throughout, is your home as inviting as it should be?
Clear out the junk They say that the lack of sunshine during the winter is what gets us down the most and a cluttered junky looking house is only going to add to that. Have a big clean out before the chill, not only is this a great cleansing exercise for the soul, but you will be making room for new winter additions.
A little repair goes a long way
If there are things around your home that need doing, then get them done now, realistically you won’t get these things done when it gets cold so patch up the hole in the wall, replace the light bulbs that have died, oil the creaky doors and sort out the batteries for your remote controls
Heat
Now is definitely the time to get real about your heating. If you don’t have some sort of insulation it is only a matter of time till your house gets cold. Start checking your heaters, especially if they are gas. Your gas bottle does have an expiration date and no amount of flirting with the petrol station guys is going to get them to “fill it up just this once” if your bottle has expired. Check all is in order with your oil heaters too. Blue sparks when you switch the heater on are NOT a good sign. Rugs, curtains and door stoppers
Are not the sexiest things to be spending your cash on but are a worthy consideration, especially if you live in an old villa. Those trendy wooden floors that are so cool in the summer really aren’t in winter. Affordable rugs or even carpet cut-offs are great to add some warm colours to your home and heat up the walkways. Thermal lined curtains can be expensive, but are always on your side when beating the cold and don’t let anyone tell you that door stoppers are a waste of space!
