No matter how you look at it acne sucks. Big time.
And it’s not just a teenage problem – I battled acne prone skin which loooved to break out at inopportune moment’s right into my 20s.
My skin problems came to a head when I woke up the day of my friend’s wedding to find my face an absolute mess. I was also her bridesmaid and was so distraught about ruining her wedding photos that I toyed with the idea of not turning up.
Anyone who experiences similar issues will know exactly what I’m talking about. It sounds stupid, but acne affects not just your face, but your self-esteem as well.
Of course I didn’t let my friend down, and luckily the make-up artist she had hired must have been a magician in another life because I ended up looking fine.
The next day I decided things had to change and I completely revamped my whole facial routine with new products and that’s when I discovered Neutrogena’s Oil-Free Acne line, which comes in gel and cream formulas.
It works for me because it’s specifically formulated for problem skin like mine. It has special properties to keep oil under control and it leaves the skin feeling fresh.
Which is pretty important because when your skin’s bad you just want to wash it all the time, but seeing as that only makes matters worse, a deep long lasting clean is crucial.
A special part of Neutrogena’s formula is salicylic acid, which is what sets these products aside from the cleansers I was using previously. Salicylic acid cleanses deep down to get rid of existing acne and acts as a preventative for future break-outs.
A great feature of these cleansers is that they also have special skin soothers which prevent your skin from over-drying. This is a problem I’ve had with many acne treatments – they leave the skin red and peeling, which really isn’t a good look.
It’s been a little while now since my friend’s wedding and, aside from the odd hormonally induced pimple, my skin has been looking much healthier and happier!
