In recent summers gone by we’ve fallen prey to the mini skirt trend, the peasant trend, the 1980s fluorescent trend and so many more which didn’t do us any justice.
But this summer sees the arrival of a long awaited practical fashion trend – shorts! And no, we’re not talking about stubbies, board shorts, or those ugly checkered things you used to wear in intermediate.
The shorts we’re talking about are not only sexy, classy, and flattering, they’re actually practical and versatile as well! Oh and did we mention that they suit every body shape as well?
There are 3 factors you need to consider when shorts shopping:
Length: Knee length shorts are the most flattering cut and can be worn dressed down with flats or thongs, or can be dressed up at night or for work with heels. Below the knee shorts are a more casual look which should be worn quite wide in the leg and with slides. The other option is ultra short shorts which should only be worn by those with loads of confidence. Short shorts should be worn with thongs and look best at the beach.
Colour: Most of the fashion stores stock neutral coloured shorts such as black, beige, or grey, which look great when teamed with either bright or neutral coloured tops. Moochi have some fantastic looking shorts in bright blue and pink though, so don’t be afraid to spice em up a little for that added spunk factor!
Environment: Shorts are so versatile and they can be worn at any occasion. It just depends what you are going to wear them with (i.e. stilettos, thongs, sequined top, or simple tank.)
If you’re harbouring fears that shorts are a little too casual for a Xmas function or a night out in the town then don’t be!
Bring on the shorts trend I say! I may even go as far to say that shorts are the new skirt.....
