About You
Get the girls together

Spring is a time of new beginnings and closet clean-outs.

But while we may be good at getting rid of last season’s shoes (did I really need to buy jandals in EVERY colour?) getting on top of where we are at with our lives, loves and careers is so much harder.

But the same ruthlessness that clears out closet space to make way for new and exciting clothing purchases can also be applied to our lives.

The problem is making decisions about changing your life is a lot scarier than giving the denim mini that was never going to fit to your skinny little sister.

That’s why you need help. Not professional help of the head shrink variety, but help in the form of your closest friends.

How often have you wasted days and spent sleepless nights stressing over some boy, a new job offer or the chance to move house, only to get on the phone with your best mate and a half an hour later feel like you have it under control?

It is a fact of life that talking through issues can bring them into perspective and it’s always amazing how much relief can come from a fresh point of view.

Even if you don’t agree with what your friends have to say about your predicament, at least they will prompt you to take a different and perhaps broader view.

Like anything, getting together with the girls to hash out life’s inconsistencies, the right setting is crucial. Nothing revs up the conversation like spending a sunny Sunday afternoon lazing on the deck and soaking up some early spring rays.

There are a few other ingredients you will need. The first being of course bountiful bottles of wine (preferably chilled lazy girls!) - a few of these under the belt and you’ll be amazed how easily it all comes pouring out (the problems, not the wine!).

Wine, by its very definition necessitates food, moreover, potato chips. Give Krispa Health Style potato chips a go, they’re great! They have 85% less saturated fat than standard chips, so you won’t find yourself doing another wardrobe clean-out to get rid of the clothes that no longer fit!

Chips in turn necessitate dip, which can only mean one thing – guacamole. There are a million different ways to make guacamole, but this is the favourite recipe in the nzgirl office – probably because it’s so easy and only takes a few minutes to whip together.

You will need:
2 ripe avocados
1 small onion
1 small tomato
1 ½ tbsp of lemon juice
Salt and pepper to taste

It’s pretty simple….all you need to do is peel the avocados and remove the stone, then peel and mince the onion and the garlic. Chop the tomato, then mash the avocado in a bowl and stir in the remaining ingredients. Make sure you pop the finished product in the fridge to chill before you serve it.

Get the girls together, hit the deck with food, wine and chips ready and by morning you’ll wake up feeling calm, collected and ready for the new possibilities, and of course the new clothes, summer may bring.
