BIG HAIR!

It seems everything in the beauty world is getting bigger – bigger pouts, bigger lashes, bigger boobs! It was only a matter of time then, before Big Hair a la 1985 made a comeback.

The Spring/Summer 2004 Catwalks at Louis Vuitton and Versace both did big hair – and I have to admit – they did it well. It’s a look that works best on long hair, to keep it sexy. Long hair also has the advantage of added weight at the bottom so you won’t go too ‘bouffy’!

Big hair doesn’t have to be scary – think of it as a slightly more emphasised bed head look. In fact, volume can be extremely flattering when it’s done well. So how do you get Divine as opposed to Dynasty…?

It’s all in the styling!
After washing your hair with a volumising shampoo and conditioning the ends so as not to over condition the roots (you’ll need them to be light not oily), towel-dry hair, then apply a volumising mousse/spray to the roots of your hair.

A simple trick is to tip your head (and hair) upside down and blow dry the roots pointing towards the ground. When you stand back up, your hair will have instant volume.

If you like your hair volumised but with a touch of curl at the ends, pin it up in a rough bun on top of your head. Then lightly hairspray all around the base of the bun. When you let your hair out, you’ll have loads of volume at the roots and a touch of messy bed head at the bottom.

At this stage you can use a little more spray to artfully lift sections of your hair if you want more volume and then gently scrunch and spray the ends to add to the curl.

Another option for creating sensuous volume and wave, is to use large hot rollers all over the head. After feeling like a nana for half an hour or so, you’ll remove them and voila - sexy waves and soft volume. Firstly, blow dry your hair straight, using a volumising mousse to give it some oomph.

Then apply the rollers to the top of the head and straight down the middle of the head. Continue rolling your hair at the sides until you have done the whole head. Leave till cool. Remove the rollers and gently run your fingers through your hair for separation of the waves. Then lightly spray to set the look.
