In honour of NZ music month, I take a look at the make-up of some of the biggest stars in the pop music industry and look at tips and tricks from some of these gorgeous women...
While at one time, actors had the greatest influence on the way we wanted to look, the music industry seems to have taken over and now, not only are we singing along to the songs, we are looking up to these pop stars and the way they dress, and style their hair and make-up.
A quick flick through FHM magazine’s ‘100 sexiest women in the world 2004’ as ranked by New Zealand and Australian men, certainly proves it’s not just us girls that admire the way our favourite pop stars look. The top 10 was comprised of 6 pop stars – with Britney Spears taking Number 1, followed by Delta Goodrem, Christina Aguilera, Kylie Minogue, Sophie Monk and Holly Valance!
If there’s one thing these stars all share (as well as gorgeous looks) is a make-up look that screams sex appeal! A quick look at some of the top looks of these stars, indicates the universal appeal of the softly smoky eyes and soft pink lips…a look that not only suits all of these women, but I can pretty much guarantee it suits you too!
Read on for nzgirls ‘how to’ on achieving the sexy make-up look of pop stars.
To get Smokey Eyes…
1) Apply a pearlescent cream shade to the entire eyelid. 2) Using a chocolate brown shade, darken the crease of the eyelid, from corner to corner and blend thoroughly, but try to keep the inner corner of the eye light. 3) Using the same shade of eye-shadow, continue shading underneath the eye, concentrating the colour at the outer corner and then fading it as you continue to the inner corner. 4) Using chocolate eyeliner, line the entire upper lash-line, then just a dash on the lower lash-line at the corner. Using a cotton bud, gently blend the eyeliner until it becomes ‘smoky’. 5) Curl your upper lashes, then using thickening black mascara, give two coats to both the upper and lower lashes.
To Get Perfect Pink Lips…
1) Using a lip-liner, that matches your natural lip shade, line your lips just outside their natural line for a full look. (If you have full lips – simply outline your natural lip line). 2) Apply a rose pink lip colour and follow with a clear gloss or skip the lipstick and use a pink coloured gloss.
Complete the Look…
1) Finish the look with a flush of pink blush applied to the ‘apples’ of your cheeks. 2) Use a highlighting powder across the top of the cheeks, to emphasise the bone structure and give you a glow.
