Over a laxin’ lunch with one of the girls, we discovered that the men of our NZ music scene cover a wide range of styles and fashion. Find out where your man fits in, or help him take a leaf from the stylebook of the stars…
Scribe
The hunny of hip-hop and crusader for NZ music, Malo has perfected the combination of hoodie, denim jacket and cap. A very unique combination, yet one that has found its place into the fashion fore- so much so that even older, white boys are jumping on the bandwagon. Not quite game to try the full combination mix and match - preferably wearing your hood up…
Scottie and the guys from Elemeno P
These guys have a staple outfit of Trucker hats, t-shirts and jeans - that casual, kinda grungy rock look. Darker or funky washes for the jeans, cool slogans or retro tees and a funky trucker hat complete this ensemble. Alternatively, go preppy like the early “Fast Times in Tahoe” vid.
Blindspott
These guys tend to opt for an urban look- tees with graffiti scrawl or brands such as dcshoeco and sometimes sport the classic white singlet. The white singlet is a classic for guys- gives them a chance to champion their muscly arms- so if your guy can afford to show a lil arm, invest in a nice clean white singlet. Accessorise with piercings, facial hair, bandanas and beanies.
Adeaze
These guys almost have a uniform going on- baggy pants or jeans, a Dickies shirt or crisp, darker shirt with collar, denim or leather jacket and the old grandpa hat giving a cute and clean-cut look.
King Kapisi
The big guy goes so far as to have his own label of clothing- “high energy hip hop streetwear” inspired by the his recent trip to New York. The range is available at Farmers and includes signature Pacifica prints, Tapa, hoodies and even the odd ‘skirt’ thrown in the mix.
Mareko and the Dawnraid crew
Hook yourself or your man up with the latest Dawnraid gear- it’s hard to track down a photo of Mareko without a white tee or sweat towel not featuring the words Mareko or White Sunday. But Dawnraid offer a range of streetwear from Fubu, Dickies, Carrhart and Converse as well as printing a range of tees with unique slogans. Alternative tee placement- over head- and accessorise with sweatbands.
