Every girl knows that accessories can turn even the plainest outfit into something special. When you accessorise, think Carrie in Sex and the City. Even when she was wearing something simple like a printed tee; Carrie was never without her trademark flower brooch, a great necklace or a funky belt.
Add a bit of ooh-la-la to your look with the latest accessory trends for 2004…
Chandelier-style earrings
Chandelier-style earrings are probably the hottest accessory to have in your jewellery box this season. Look for pieces with an antique look – bronze with lots of coloured stones, pearls or glass beads.
Heading out on a casual date in your jeans and fave black top? Add a pair of chandelier earrings to give your look a touch of glamour!
Over-sized pendants
Large pendants are a great way to draw attention to your neck and chest, so don’t be afraid to go big! Look for highly polished oval or round shell pendants that are 10-12cm in diameter. And don’t worry, they may be big but these shell pendants are also very light! Chokers
Chokers are very big this season, so look for chandelier-style vintage designs and multi-layered pearl or stone pieces.
Cuff bracelets
Cuff bracelets continue to be a popular accessory choice for both casual and evening wear. Look for very wide cuffs made from leather, pearls (or wrap a strand of pearls around your wrist a few times), or Venetian glass beads. Hot colours include all shades of pink, emerald greens, yellow and vintage amber.
Costume jewellery:
Combining vintage accessories with modern pieces is a sure-fire way to turn an ordinary outfit into something very special. Raid your nana’s jewellery box for strands of pearls (real or fake – it doesn’t matter!), diamante anything, oversized rings, and large coloured stone brooches. If nana won’t let you near her jewels, head down to your local antiques dealer.
If you can’t find exactly what you want in the shops then try making it yourself. Check out www.beadbazaar.co.nz for step-by-step instructions on making necklaces and earrings then get along to your local bead shop.
