Style Guide: Jessica Simpson

Jessica and husband Nick Lachey (98 Degrees) star in the MTV reality show “Newlyweds”. Almost everything the couple say and do is caught on camera, which makes peeking into Jessica's wardrobe rather easy...

Jessica Simpson may be one of a raft of young pop singers to come out of America in the past 3 years, but she’s a bit different to her sisters in sound.

Jessica recently married long-term boyfriend Nick Lachey (of 98 Degrees) and as the daughter of a minister, she doesn’t flaunt her sexuality in her videos.

Jessica first tasted success with the hit single “Sweet Kisses” and now she’s been taken under the wing of super-designer Tommy Hilfiger as part of his Tommy Music programme. This has made her platinum album - and hair - the talk of the (pop) town! The teen sensation was also a part of this year's "25 Hottest Stars Under 25" from Teen People magazine.

Fashion:
Jessica and husband Nick Lachey star in a reality TV show called “Newlyweds” which means (almost) everything they say and do is caught on camera. On a recent episode Jessica was heard worrying over a US$750 spending spree on lingerie. On another episode she took a US$1,500 Louis Vuitton purse camping. Apart from these amusing “caught-on-camera” fashion faux pas, Jessica’s style can be classed as contemporary classic for major events, and designer casual when she’s not working. She recently a spokeswoman for Tommy Jeans (designed by fashion giant Tommy Hilfiger) which mean’s she’ll always have a pair of funky jeans in the cupboard.

Jessica’s show has also spawned a new fashion trend in the US. Jessica is regularly spotted on screen wearing a crocheted wrap. Now known as Jessica’s Comfort Wrap, the piece was made by Argentinean designer Cecilia de Bucourt. Even Justin Timberlake was spotted in one during a Saturday Night Live takeoff on Jessica.

Hair:
Jessica makes keeps her trademark locks healthy and shiny by sleeping with conditioner in her hair every night. She also makes sure she uses products that contain Vitamin E to hydrate her tresses. To recreate Jessica’s curly look, use a light gel and comb it through towel-dried hair from the roots to the ends. Next, part your hair down the middle and scrunch it, then leave to dry naturally.

Makeup:
"You have to look within your soul and find your beauty. That's where it comes from."--Jessica Simpson

Jessica always looks fresh-faced and wears minimal make up. To recreate Jessica’s look start with a light base – try a tinted foundation or normal foundation applied with a damp sponge or paintbrush (tool of the pros) to give your skin a dewy finish. For the eyes, it’s pink all the way, so apply your favourite pinky shade to your lids and blend upwards. Go au natural with your lashes or curl and use a clear mascara to keep their shape. Give your cheeks a bit of extra glow with a sweep of blush and finish with a neutral lipstick or your favourite gloss.
