His debut album went gold on it’s first day on the shelves and he’s got a gig supporting hip hop superstar 50 Cent…yep, Kiwi MC Scribe has definitely made it.
Kate hooked up with Scribe on the day of his album release and found out a few interesting things about NZ’s favourite (and best looking) hip hop artist…
If you could have 24 hours with one person – living or dead – who would it be and what would you do?
I would probably spend it with my son whom I don’t get to see much. He’s 4 this year – I had him in my late teens. We’d do whatever he wanted to do. Can I have someone dead too? I’d choose Bob Marley and just smoke a joint with him and talk.
What’s the most tragic item in your wardrobe?
It’s funny you say that because I just cleaned my wardrobe out and filtered through all the tragedy. All of my stuff is stuff I wear now…I’ve got good taste!! Oh, but recently I went down to Christchurch to my parents house. I was in my old room and I was looking through some of my old clothes, and I found a pair of three stripe Adidas trackpants with the stirrup!
What celebrity do you lust after?
Can I have two? Kylie Bax and Nikki Watson.
You like blondes don’t you?
Yeah….but for international girls I’d choose Halle Berry and Alyssa Milano.
What’s your dream car?
Probably an Escalade – it’s a 4WD that they only have in the States. Nelly and Justin Timberlake and all of them have them.
What song is the soundtrack to your life?
Probably Cat Stevens, “This is It”, and Bob Marley, “Rastaman Vibration”.
What’s the best present you’ve ever been given?
A photo of me and my son that I got for Father’s Day from my son.
Strangely enough Scribe's phone rang at this point and it was his son calling to say hi
What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever set fire to?
I’ve never been into pyrotechnics. Oh, but when I was young, about 8, dad was a guitar player and he used to have meths to clean his strings. One night me and my brother went out and wrote our names in the grass with meths and set it alight. The grass burnt and we got in trouble.
What’s the first thing that comes into mind when I say…
Blind date: Ummm - nothing! Beer: Ngahere Gold – it’s a South Island home brew Barbeque: Barbequed mussels Coffee: Jarrah Best mates: Trust
What’s the best thing about women?
Those two little dimples in a woman’s back that look like thumbprints. I don’t know what they’re really called but some guys call them thumbprints.
What’s the most annoying thing?
Insecurity.
What’s the biggest rebound no-no?
Don’t meet anyone too soon and make sure you take time out for yourself to heal after a relationship. Either that or don’t sleep with anyone that person knows!
Have you ever been stopped by customs?
Yes! Me and P-Money went over to Australia for a gig. I think P had travelled there not too long before, and we only ever went over for 3 days. When we came back they wanted to check us for “e’s” because they thought we must be bringing them back during the short visits. We went over for a gig but when we filled out the form we said it was for a holiday because we didn’t want to pay the tax. They searched P’s record cases, but they didn’t go through with the full body search.
If you could do a celebrity endorsement for any product, what would it be?
I’d have to say Bic pens because I’ve been using them all my life.
You’re cooking up a storm at home – what’s on the menu?
T-bone steak with a fresh salad, some mushroom sauce, garlic potatoes, and roasted kumara and pumpkin.
What reality TV show would you go on?
Fear Factor! And I’d get all the way to the end buddy!
