About You
Women on Top

The Guinness Book of World Records is full of fascinating, astounding and just plain strange achievements.

Sure sport, medicine and body-related records are interesting, but the nzgirl team wanted to know was what off-the-wall records the world’s women had been setting…

Holiest Woman:
Scotland’s holiest woman, Elaine Davidson, had endured a total of 720 piercings by August 2001 – over 250 more than when she first broke the record in May 2000. Davidson has 192 piercings on her facial area alone.

Most Bikini Waxes:
Don’t believe your beauty therapist when she says she gets no pleasure from performing bikini waxes – here’s proof that they do like inflicting pain on us! Former Southlander Lareesa Guttery has bikini waxed her way into the Guinness Book of World Records by stripping 130 women clean in just 4 hours. Guttery, now based in Perth, outstripped the old record of 77 in just over an hour. She was even forced to wax herself and her staff when registrations started to get a bit slow.

Plastic Fantastic!
Peru's Fulvia Celica Siguas Sandoval has the dubious honour of being the world’s most plasticized woman. Fulvi – a transsexual TV clairvoyant - has had 64 cosmetic operations since December 1979. The surgery addict’s job sheet includes over 25 procedures on her face and neck, ear reductions, transformations to her legs, and arm liposuction.

Expensive Scent:
The world's most expensive perfume is Parfum VI designed by British perfumer Arthur Burnham. The perfume is out of the reach of many people at £47,500 (NZ$131,361) per bottle. Why so expensive? Parfum VI comes in a bottle made of platinum, 24 carat gold, rubies and diamonds, encased in a box locked with a gold, jewel-studded key. This top shelf fragrance was inspired by the Phantom VI Rolls-Royce – of which only 173 were made – which is why Burnham only made 173 bottles.

Teeny Tiny Waist:
In the early 90’s American woman Cathie Jung decided she wanted to achieve the “waspish waist” of Victorian women, so she started wearing corsets. After 12 years wearing a corset 24 hours a day, Cathie’s waist measured just 38.1cm!

Best Place to Score:
If you’re finding it hard to find a decent guy around these parts try booking yourself a ticket to the United Arab Emirates. The UAE boasts the highest male-to-female ratio in the world with just over two men to every woman. The male population numbers 67.54%, while the female population is just 32.46%.

Ball Hair in a Flash:
Super-speeding isn’t exactly what you want in a hairdresser, but Timo Zimmermann made it his trademark when he twisting the hair of 22 women into an up-do in just 60 seconds. Zimmermann completed his world-record styling effort using a chopstick-type on the set of the German Guinness World Record show in 1998.
