Pete Yorn – Day I Forgot

A good dose of rock/pop with a little country and indie - Pete Yorn's second album "Day I Forgot" is the kind of album you can put on for an evening with friends and a bottle of wine and not have too many people complain.

I’ve been working in online media for three years, and by this time you’d think I was quite the guru – but I still can’t figure out how to play multimedia CD’s! It took 10 minutes and a sheepish request via ICQ to play the audio of the CD and not the CD-Rom extra…

Pete Yorn is a New Jersey (USA) singer-songwriter who made more than a few ripples in the music pool with his critically acclaimed debut album, “musicforthemorningafter”. “Day I Forgot” is Yorn’s second album, and although apparently not as good as the first, it’s definitely worth a listen.

The first taste of Pete Yorn’s voice reminds me of a cross between Tom Petty and Eddie Vedder – gravely, and full of rock melody. The first single off the album is “Come Back Home”, a song about coming home after a long time away and remembering where you come from.

The rest of the album is a mixture of rock ballads with a mostly love and relationship theme. “Crystal Village” stood out for me, as well as “Committed”, but all in all it’s a pretty familiar sounding album.

One song, “Carlos (Don’t Let it go to Your Head)”, stands out like a sore thumb. Yorn’s done something funny with his voice and the instrumental is a bit whack, but hey, you can always skip the ones you don’t like right?

The sound is a little country, a little indie, and a good dose of pop, so it will appeal to most rock/pop music tastes. It’s the kind of album you can put on for an evening with friends and a bottle of wine and not have too many people complain.

Right, I’m off to by “musicforthemorningafter” to complete my cosy-music set.
