It’s official - Auckland Blues fullback / winger Doug Howlett is New Zealand’s hunkiest rugby player (but you already knew that).
Howlett came out on top in an online search by nzoom and Canterbury of New Zealand to find New Zealand rugby’s hunkiest player.
The stud search was part of Canterbury’s launch of its new six-stud boots.
Kiwi’s cast hundreds of votes in the competition, picking their top 6 studs from a list of Super 12 players. Howlett came in ahead of fellow Blues player, Carlos Spencer, who was closely followed by Regan King (Chiefs).
Rounding out the top six were: 1. Doug Howlett (Blues), 2. Carlos Spencer (Blues), 3. Regan King (Chiefs), 4. Daniel Carter (Crusaders), 5. Richie McCaw (Crusaders), and 6. Aaron Mauger (Crusaders).
nzoom sports editor Sophie Lyon said the top two hunks weren’t surprising, but competition was fierce for the runners-up spots, and all short-listed studs had their supporters.
“Studliness is a subjective thing, but our top hunks seem to have mass appeal. It’s great that we’re in an era where we can appreciate these players for more than their playing ability alone.”
