20 Things About: Liam “Whatever” Lynch

"Well this is my United States of Whatever"...you've heard the song, now find out about Liam Lynch, the crazy man behind it!

1.
Liam was born September 5, 1970
2. He has been writing stories and original music since age 12. He wrote, recorded, and produced his first album of original songs at age 15.
3. “United States of Whatever" leaked its way onto radio request charts when fans burned it from a commercial import out of the UK, where it was a Top 10 hit in December.
4.Liam says he made up the song as he went along. "There was nothing ever written, there were no lyrics. I just hit 'record' and started playing. All I had in my mind was the phrase 'United States of Whatever.'
5. “Fake Songs” was created in 1999, but wasn’t released until April 2003…nearly four years later!
6. The album includes mock songs by Depeche Mode, David Bowie and Björk.
7. Ex-Beatle, this time Ringo Starr, plays drums on Liam’s album, “Fake Songs”.
8. Liam’s sister designed the artwork on the over of his album.
9. He runs a production company called “111 Productions”
10. He directed and edited the Foo Fighter’s video, “Times Like These”
11. Had his own sock puppet show on MTV Europe called Sifl and Olly – who he describes as the Reeves and Mortimer of sock puppets. He later got a daily half-hour show on MTV America in which there were two original songs in each episode.
12. Liam plays Olly, who is a white tube sock.
13. Sifl and Olly were originally supposed to be claymation, but Liam didn't have the money to do that, so he just used socks.
14. Bands like Ben Folds Five and Portishead are amongst the legion of fans who love Liam’s $3 puppets.
15. He was one of 40 musicians chosen from around the world to study at the Sir Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. Lynch was not only in the institute's first graduating class, but one of 5 musicians hand-picked by the ex-Beatle to work on a one-on-one basis.
16. He is currently writing and directing the new Tenacious D full-length feature for Ben Stiller’s production company.
17. In his late teens, Liam moved from Ohio to Nashville Tennessee and became the frontman for a band called Owen’s Ashes.
18. Ironically, Nashville almost killed him. Liam was literally allergic to his new environment, and suffered from vertigo and thrush in his mouth and throat. He needed surgery to drain the fluid and survived.
19. He once worked at Blockbuster Video
20. He prefers to work cheaply – Liam is definitely not a big budget man!
