I found out about the competition… I actually didn’t even know there was a competition! It was my mum who went out of her way when we bought Jockey underwear for Dad to get an entry form and she put my name on the entry form - love my mum!
When I got the call to say I’d won… I was at school so they left a message. My grandma, who didn’t listen properly was like “a teacher called from school”. I thought, “what did I do now?” Then I found out it wasn't a teacher and the message said I’d won! First I thought they had the wrong person because I couldn’t remember entering! Then I thought “No way! It’s DAN CARTER!” It took about a day to take in the shock and having all my friends going crazy over it didn't help.
My first thought when I got off the phone was… Oh my gosh! Daniel Carter + dinner = OMG!
The day before the lunch I… thought a lot! About what it would be like to meet him, whether it would be awkward at all? And I went and bought a new pen and got my favourite picture of him printed as a poster!
Before meeting him, I thought… “Oh great! He'll probably think we're weirdo girls that have a secret obsession with him.” I also thought “Ohh no, awkward silences are on their way”. But at the same time I was really excited. When Mum saw him walk through the door I could feel that funny feeling in my stomach. He was very casual though, parked his car, got out and just wandered in.
I was most surprised when… Dan said "I don't even see why girls are so crazy over me". I thought “WHAT!? You don’t know? Look at yourself!” A lot surprised me during the time we were with him, but one thing was that he likes cricket and played heaps when he was little! We had an argument about whether cricket was fun and interesting or not. It was four girls against one guy! He also told us that initially he wasn't willing to be a Jockey model but he ended up agreeing to it and now is having fun with it.
There was this one moment over dinner when… A few moments really highlighted the dinner! The first was when we talked about what we do in our spare time. One of my mates said “I hate being inside!” and Dan said “So what do you do outside?” My mate said: “We have cows in the farm next door to our house so I just run around with the cows” Dan said: “You run around with the cows?!” He couldn’t stop laughing and kept mocking her about it but it was funny.
There was another moment when a customer walked passed our table not looking where they were going because their eyes were bulging out at our table! Dan looked at them and said “Ahh I get that a lot.”
Lunch was honestly amazing! It was completely casual and we laughed heaps! At the end Dan said “well I’ve learnt a lot, that’s for sure. WOW!”
This is embarrassing to admit, but... Even if someone else was talking, I couldn’t look at them! I was too busy checking out the rugby player! AND I saw his Jockey underwear - when he got up to go to the bathroom! Shhhhh!
I absolutely had to ask him… if he thought girls were scary the way they go all gaga over him. He said “yup, their screams are deafening!”
One thing I’ll always regret… not getting enough pictures or autographs!
I walked away feeling… Like I love that guy! He is so nice, so down to earth and funny and really HOT! I thought I was really lucky!
My advice to other nzgirls lucky enough to dine with ‘The Dan’ is… He’s an amazing person! He is really nice, quiet and reserved, but still funny. He’s just good company and you'll definitely have a good time with him! His eyes are so dreamy! You'll just LOVE him ... more and more.
