We count down the 10 hottest songs worthy of your listening pleasure this week – from killer kiwi grooves, through to hot dance floor beats, see what made our list here…
‘She’s a Mod’, The Mint Chicks A classic cover that honours New Zealand music legends Ray Columbus and the Invaders (who were recently inducted into the NZ Music Hall of Fame for their ‘Legacy Award’), this close-to-home version made its debut at the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards. With all its proceeds going to charity, the same track that took the Invaders to number one 45 years ago, holds the top spot again.
‘Oh My’, Gin Wigmore ‘Oh My’, oh yeah! Gin Wigmore follows up with another stellar single with that unique kiwi flavour and attitude. Husky as hell, good as gold.
‘Tik Tok’, Kesha A track for after dark, this party tune is pure club-sure pop. She’s got a little bit more bad-ass attitude to level the score with goodie-two-shoes Taylor and a more straight up-and-down style than the kooky Lady G, but still total dance floor fiend material.
‘Emotional and Dirty’, Bandicoot This little rocker hails from the top of the bfm chart. A rad little kiwi quartet, bandicoot are a feisty wee number with more than a child-like edge. Cutsey, kooky, coolio.
‘Meet me Halfway’, Black Eyed Peas A well oiled, hit-generating machine of auto-tune and ‘futuristic’ beats, the Black Eyed Peas return with another effortless hit. Melodic, catchy and confident, ‘Meet me Halfway’ takes its place hanging out at the top of the charts with The E.N.D’s previous singles.
‘Holiday’, Dizzee Rascal So it’s a little bit cheesy, but it’s also a lot catchy, a lot fun and a lot summer-dance-floor-filling-fantastic. An upbeat fusion of dance and rap, this infectious little number continues Dizzee’s plight into mainstream-dom and continues the dance-floor rave-outs of ‘Bonkers’.
‘Boondigga’, Fat Freddy’s Drop Continuing the sweet sounds for summer, Fat Freddy’s are bringing the beats to the barbie with more soul fusions of dub, funk, reggae and roots. ‘Boondigga’ is a smooth sailing track that builds to trance excursion before making a quiet little exit. Bring on the beach.
‘Love Alone’, Sola Rosa feat Spikey Tee Another kiwi tune to sink your teeth into, this sweet little track has stuck it out in the kiwi fm charts for quite some weeks now. Smooth melodies with an original twang and pumping beat, this is one infectious wee ditty.
‘I Know You Want Me (calle Ocho)’, Pitbull You can’t escape this song at the moment. Whether it’s on the TV, Radio, in the club or just stuck in your head, this is a simple, effective and catchy tune that seems to be taking over the charts.
‘Uprising’, Muse First single off their latest (and much anticipated) album The Resistance, this track has the spike and attitude we know oh-so-well of Muse. While no one can call it progressive, or even close to Muse at their peak, it’s still catchy and defiant with glimmering moments of troop-rallying funk.
