Turn off the TV If you’re watching reruns of Friends for the millionth time or desperate for your daily dose of Shortland Street, set your DVD or VCR recorder. Daylight saving is here. There’s an extra hour where you could be doing something constructive with your family - taking a walk, gardening together or enjoying a family BBQ. Don’t waste it glued to the goggle box.
Get behind Movember Movember is all about supporting and raising awareness for men’s health – in particular helping the New Zealand Cancer Society with prostate cancer research and the New Zealand Mental Health Foundation with their mens depression programme. Although you may not be able to grow a moustache, you can get behind Movember in a number of different ways! You can donate to someone officially growing a mo, or directly to the cause, celebrate at official Movember events or host your own! Click here for more info on how you can help get behind Movember.
Engage Your Brain, Before Your Mouth Instead of snapping at someone who annoys you; try to take a few deep breaths before replying. After all the old saying goes, a quiet answer turneth away wrath. If they’re looking to engage you in an argument, the best thing you can do is walk away.

If you've never met your neighbours, or don't remember the last time you actually talked to them, why not break the silence and give them a visit? Pop a card in next door’s letterbox, bake a batch of muffins or just mow their grass verge when you’re doing yours...
Challenging Donate your time
We're in a recession, so donating money to good causes is a bit of a stretch for some at the moment. However, you can still help needy causes out there by volunteering your time, instead of cash. Need some help finding a great cause? Visit www.volunteernow.org.nz.
Adopt a Grandparent Rest homes and hospitals can be lonely places for those whose friends have passed on or have no families. Why not take the time to visit an elderly person and bring a little bit of joy into their lives? One of the nurses will be able to point you in the direction of someone who rarely gets visitors. Even if it’s just for ten minutes once a week, you’ll be making a difference
