September's Spring Clean Challenges

How did you spring clean challenges go this month? Tick them off here to see how well you did!

It’s finally spring, and to celebrate, this month our challenges are all about putting an extra ‘spring’ in your step! We’ll help you spring clean your entire life – from your inbox and wardrobe, right through to your career plans…

Tame
Store your winter clothes away
After months of cold, windy days – winter is over and it’s officially spring! So to celebrate, why pack away your old winter clothes, bit by bit (as much as the weather allows) and make room for your fav spring dresses, cardies and singlets. Say bye bye to those big, hefty coats!

Gynaecological Cancer Awareness month
September is Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month, so now is the perfect time to get clued up on the signs and symptoms of gynaecological cancers. Of the 300 women surveyed by the Cancer Society of New Zealand, over one third could not identify a single sign or symptom – pretty shocking when you consider that this simple information could save your life! Visit www.silverribbon.co.nzto learn some potentially life saving facts now!

Clean out your inbox
It’s easy to let junk pile up in your inbox, so cast aside your excuses and get stuck into it! Go through your emails and file away what you need, and delete what you don’t. You’ll feel far more organised, and it’s no surprise – you will be!

Turn it off at the wall
Make it your mission to turn off as many switches in your household as you can. By turning off appliances at the wall, you can save $75 to $200 a year! Crazy!

INTERMEDIATE
Spring clean
It’s a cliché, but spring really is the perfect time to give your house a good ol’ spring clean. We bet after months of bad weather your windows are grimy, your cupboards dusty and your walls are pretty grubby. Pull aside an entire weekend and work on getting your house sparkling clean. We’ve got some great tips here.

Get organised for New Year’s
Yes, New Year’s is still four months away, but past experience has taught us that four months always flies by! If
you want to have a fabulous New Year’s, start planning and researching what you’re going to do now – whether it’s a trip to Rhythm and Vines, an exotic get away, or a fun party at home, get organised now!

Squeeze in exercise time
Now is the perfect time to spring your body into action. Start with small steps, squeezing any bit of extra exercise that you can into your everyday routine – whether it’s walking to work, trying a new exercise class or doing a few different moves at home every night. Every little bit counts, and you’ll be glad come summer, trust us!

CHALLENGING
Get ambitious
Figure out what you really want to achieve career wise, and figure out an action plan to turn your dreams into a reality. Ask yourself what your passions are? What skills do you have, and what do you need to get to where you want to be? Find a career you love, and you’ll be set for life – so get started now!

Ditch the hair straigthener/blow dryer
Give your hair a well-deserved break this month, and say no to heated hair appliances (as much as you can). Maybe cut down to using your straightener four days a week, instead of seven. If you’re really game – try going without any heated appliances for an entire week! You can be guaranteed your hair will be looking and feeling much healthier at the end of it.

Make everyday Random Acts of Kindness day
September 1 is RAK Day, a day that’s all about random acts of kindness. The challenge here, is to make every day RAK Day – by doing something kind for someone, whether you them or not, for no good reason. You could bake a cake for your co-workers, set up a lovely surprise for a friend or do something as simple as smiling at a stranger. Visit www.rak.co.nz for more ideas.

In keeping with our theme of giving your life a 'spring clean' why not consider a new career - in the New Zealand Army? If you love keeping fit and active, travelling and expanding your mind, it could be just the thing for you! Army life is a lot different to what you probably think it is – say hello to being paid to keep in shape, work in a job you love, travel and keep your social life! Click here to find out more…
