This month the airwaves are hot with a raft of hot new tracks from old favourite like Greenday and Eminem, as well as fresh new talent like J Williams, Pixie Lott and Little Boots.
Find out first what's hot thanks to Liselle's top ten hottest songs rundown Heavy Cross’ Gossip Proving she’s not a one trick indie disco hit, Gossip’s Beth Ditto belts it out in this stomper of a track. Turns out it’s not over when the fat lady sings. ‘Heavy Cross’ spells a welcome return for Gossip and hints at some great things to come. ’21 Guns’ Green Day| Second single off their newbie album (and 8th one no less), ’21 Guns’ has all the big power-pop chord changes and lighter/cellphone/whatever-form-of-light-you-have-handy moments of a dramatically catchy wee ballad. They might not quite the same charm and energy of their yester-year selves, but these nineties punk kids have a little bit of juice left in them yet. ‘Paparrazi’ Lady Gaga Another day, another hit, this kooky lil miss proves she has a knack for a catchy tune. Slowing things down a bit, Lady Gaga goes more sultry than slutty (no disco sticks ‘round here) but still pulls another infectious chorus out of the bag for a chart hit that ain’t goin’ anywhere anytime soon. ‘Stand With You’ J. Williams feat Lavina Williams This talented kiwi boy is taking over the charts with his smooth talking, sweet looking, soul sounding tunes. He’s even letting big sister in on the act – cute!
‘New in Town’ Little Boots Another sexy synth track, Little Boots’ Victoria Hesketh is taking her slice of the ever-so-popular electro-pop pie to the world. And she has us hooked. She may not be terribly unique, but she does deliver on the promise of a good night out.
‘Beautiful’ Eminem Eminem has uncharacteristically dropped the celeb bashing and insults for a bit of a mope. How precious. While lines like ‘I just hide behind the tears of a clown’ are potentially more funny than Eminem’s digs, this little piece of honesty is a refreshing change.
‘Scream Walk’ Street Chant Number one on the bFM charts, ‘Scream Walk’ is the driving brainchild of Auckland based Street Chant. Great little song writers, catchy little tune. Check them out.
‘Mama Do’ Pixie Lott A little bit more gritty than your average popstar, Pixie Lott has the soulful touch of Duffy with a little more cheek. Battling a familiar situation for any 18-year-old - what would dear old mummy and daddy do if they knew about you, you sneaky boy - Pixie’s content may reflect her age even if her powerful voice does not.
‘Good Girls Go Bad’ Cobra Starship feat Leighton Meester Here’s one to get your boogie on to. This club banger of a track is certainly one for the dancefloors with some oh-so-popular synth beats, a little bit of late-night sleaze and even a nice guest appearance from Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester. ‘Don’t know what to do’ Dane Rumble Another little smoothie, Dane Rumble returns with another chart pleaser in all it’s infectiousness. A more reflective track this time round, ‘Don’t know what to do’ will no doubt ring true with many.
