It’s the middle of winter and we’re in a recession – not only is the weather glum, but your bank balance is probably looking a little bleak too! If you’re feeling stressed, grumpy or just a little dull – we’ve got some great tips to help you relax, revive and get happy again! Check the nzgirl team’s fav ways to unwind here…
NAME: Shannon Slade, fashion channel manager
My no-fail way to unwind is… A super-hot steamy bath with gorgeous bath treats along with a glass of champers, my latest inspiration-filled home reno mag, candles and my cat Cleo.
Agreed, it's an odd mix but it's my fail-safe winter way to enjoy a little 'me' time while feeling totally pampered. For some reason my cat LOVES water and more often than not she sits on the side of the bath and enjoys the moment as much as me!
NAME: Ramarea, nzgirl editor My no-fail way to unwind is… With the weather being so cold and grey, after a long day I love jumping into my fluffy and super warm onesie (yes, a polar fleece jumpsuit that’s pink with sheep on it), cranking the gas heater and watching DVDs with friends and lots of fizzy drink and treaties.
As lame as it sounds – it’s so much fun and the perfect way to relax. I totally recommend you give it a go - especially the onesie!
NAME: Nadia, Campaign Manager My no-fail way to unwind is… Having a long hot shower and then jumping into something comfy (usually my pj’s). I will then proceed to smile sweetly, put on a sad face and repeat - “I’ve had a bad day”, until someone kindly offers to make me a dinner.
The rest of the night is filled with a combination of eating and laxing out on the couch. Then early to bed with plenty of blankies so I am tightly snug like a little Eskimo! NAME: Angela, Support Manager My no-fail way to unwind is… Dog walking. Yes, even though it’s cold and dark. I put on my absolutely brilliant Swanndri (by Karen Walker) and a pair of top quality gumboots (Hunter Wellies!) and take my gorgeous Border Collie “Tip” for a walk. Thankfully there’s pretty good lighting at the park. She chases ball after ball after ball, and I let off a lot of steam throwing the ball as far as I can. When we’ve had enough we head home – her feeling well and truly exercised, and me feeling all windswept and ALIVE.
This doesn’t work at all if it’s raining of course. When the weather demands, I simply unwind with a couple of wines, much like anyone else!
NAME: Bonnie, Commercial Director My no-fail way to unwind is… Ignore the TV, ignore the answer phone’s flashing light, ignore dinner preparation and give into my puppies big brown eyes. I set myself a short 20 min route around the neighbourhood and just layer up for a brisk walk even on a cold night.
Guaranteed within 100m of my house the thoughts are being one by one left behind on the pavement. It takes motivation to rip the band aid and leave the couch – but it makes the rest of the night worth it!

My no fail way to unwind is… To watch a Girls Next Door marathon with one of my buds. I've finally mastered the MySky, so now I can record episodes, ready for when I need a large dose of nothingness to help me switch off. And it's only complete with a big gin and tonic to top it off! |
