Need a new book to curl up with through winter? We've found five of the hottest books to hit the shelves this winter, and there's something for everyone... Vision in White, Nora Roberts Mackensie, Parker, Laurel and Emmaline have been friends since childhood, and despite their very different personalities have united their childhood love of make-believe weddings into a thriving business staging the real thing for hundreds of happy couples. However, planning weddings and organising love lives appear to be very different things, as Mackensie Elliot is slowly figuring out. However, with the addition of the gorgeous Carter Maguire, surely not even his jealous ex-girlfriend or her mother-from-hell can stop them from finding true love?
I have to admit to being a big fan of Nora Roberts’ books, as she always combines feisty females with super-hot men and a great story. However, this book is definitely one of her best, with the characters literally jumping off the page… Carter would be welcome to any day! A fantastic love story and Book 1 of the Bride Quartet, I’ll definitely be back for more wedding days with this series! Piatkus, RRP $27.99 Stars: 5 Buy it at Fishpond Pursuit, Karen Robards For those more interested in suspense and thrills than hearts and frills, Robards’ latest is a sure-fire winner. Jess is an up-and-coming lawyer in a Washington firm, thrilled to help out her senior partner on a late-night errand. When she realises she’s expected to meet the President’s wife in a hotel bar and persuade her to return to the White House, she’s less enthusiastic. But there is no way she could have foreseen the car crash that kills the First Lady and leaves Jess badly injured, or the suicides, car chases, and battles with the Secret Service that will follow, leaving her with only a rogue Service agent to rely on. I loved the pace and intensity of this thriller, which will have you hooked on Jess’s adventures from start to finish. Hodder & Staughton, RRP $38.99
Stars: 4 Buy it at Fishpond Rumour Has It, Jill Mansell From another best-selling author who consistently produces fabulously entertaining novels, Mansell’s latest is no exception. Tilly Cole is newly single and has arrived in the small town of Roxborough for a break with her best friend Erin. She’s almost ready to move back to London when she spots an ad for “Fun job, country house” and is instantly tempted. Her new boss, Max Dineen, is almost too perfect, while his gorgeous business partner Jack would be exactly what she was looking for… if she was into getting her heart-broken. Fast-paced, gripping, and very, very funny, Rumour Has It is perfect to curl up with on these long winter evenings. Headline, $34.99
Stars: 4.5 Buy it at Fishpond Kill for Me, Karen Rose This book should come with a warning… not for the faint-hearted, do not read alone on a winter’s night! With that disclaimer, I can say that Kill for Me is a powerful look at the battle between those who strive to save the weak, and those who want only to exploit them. District Attorney Susannah Vartanian and Detective Luke Papdopoulos must join forces to save young women from a paedophile ring, led by the rescued Monica, who is the only escapee, and therefore the only person who can identify the face of evil behind the ring. As they draw closer to the truth, Susannah’s past threatens all their good work, as together they have to face their fears. Although this is the third in a trilogy, it’s a fascinating read on its own. Headline, $38.99
Stars: 4 Buy it at Fishpond Flawless, Tilly Bagshawe Scarlett Drummond is a rarity, an ethical diamond-seller who is interested in the workers as well as the clarity of her diamonds. She’s trying to take London by storm with her beautiful jewellery designs, but quickly treads on some dangerous toes by proclaiming her unorthodox philosophy. When the gorgeous Meyer boys offer to help her find her feet in Los Angeles, Scarlett takes on the new challenge, but can she refuse the charms of Jake Meyer which appear to come as part of the package? Scarlett is a fantastic lead character, and her adventures are both hilarious and heart-warming. A great book that is as perfectly constructed as its diamonds. Orion, $34.99
