Winter is well and truly here. It’s a time of colds and flus, which makes it an excellent time to get super healthy to fight off those nasty bugs. So, here are a few tips on how to become healthier. Eat super foods Eat whole grains, fruit, and vegetables. These foods are rich in nutritious fibre, which do wonders for your health. Fibrous foods not only curb your appetite but they help control your help you reduce your risk of some types of cancer and coronary heart disease. Incorporate omega-3 fatty acids into your diet. They boost immune function and brainpower and help balance your cholesterol levels, reducing your risk of heart disease. Omega 3 fatty acids are found in plant based oils (e.g. soybean, walnut, canola) and oily fish (e.g. tuna, salmon). CalciumGet plenty of calcium into your diet by munching on and milk products, peanuts, broccoli, tofu and wholemeal bread. Calcium can strengthen your bones and reduces risk of osteoporosis. Chill out A little bit of stress can be okay because can help motivate you, but too much can be detrimental to your health. Too much stress in your life can exasperate feelings of depression and it can make you more susceptible to illnesses. To lessen your stress, keep active, talk problems over with your friends and family and take time out for yourself. If stress becomes too hard to handle it might be a good idea to seek professional help. Go organic Eating organically is good for your health. Organic foods are typically higher in essential nutrients, such as vitamins A, C and E, which are antioxidants. These antioxidants help fight cancer causing free radicals.
