Team Sports: 5 Fun Ways to Get Fit

Looking at putting together a sports team with your girlfriends but not sure what to play? Team sports are a fantastic way to both socialize and get in a great workout at the same time. So in the spirit of team sports, we’ve compiled a list of the top five team sports worth giving a go. 

1: Basketball
Basketball is a great, fast paced sport where you can burn up to 600 calories an hour. It’s also great for improving endurance, hand-eye coordination, concentration and building muscle. Basketball is typically played indoors, so it’s the perfect winter sport to do during those cold months, plus, it’s a sport you can practice both on your own and with your team. 

2: Soccer

A fantastic sport for improving cardiovascular health and overall fitness, soccer is definitely no longer a male only sport. Soccer is a great game for women, it’s non-contact, promotes teamwork and is relatively easy to learn and play. If you want to improve muscle and bone strength, soccer is the perfect sport.

3: Water Polo

For those who are after a more challenging sport, water polo involves skill, speed, conditioning and endurance. Water Polo is a really great team sport; it requires a lot of training and requires the team members to be really in tune with one another. Water polo offers the exercise benefits of swimming and the social aspects of sports like basketball and soccer. 

4: Hockey

Another fast paced sport, hockey is a skilled game which also involves plenty of socializing. With hockey you can burn up to 600 calories per hour and it’s a fantastic lower body and upper body workout; although hockey requires more skill, it definitely pays off in the end.

5: Volleyball

For those who want a team sport which focuses more on an upper body workout, volleyball is the perfect sport for you. It’s a great social and competitive game which can really improve your reflexes. Plus it’s a sport that can be played both in winter and summer by people of all ages and levels.
