This month Ramarea gives you the verdict on Seven Pounds, starring Will Smith, which has just been released on DVD…
Seven Pounds is completely different to anything I’ve ever seen Will Smith in; he’s usually the funny, cool guy or the strong, cocky hero. In Seven Pounds, he plays a haunted guy with a lot of weight on his shoulders, and makes it hard to believe that he was ever the carefree Fresh Prince of Bell Air or one of the spunky Men In Black.
Seven Pounds is an emotional drama with a wicked, twisted plotline. It’s best to watch with a clear mind, and not too much of an idea of what’s going to happen – but don’t worry, I won’t spoil it for you!
Will plays an IRS agent whose life is turned upside down after a horrific accident, which kills his wife and six others. He holds himself responsible and finds himself eaten up by the guilt that he just can’t let go. He becomes suicidal and sets out to give away seven “pounds of flesh” (his own!) in a bid to help seven strangers who truly deserve a second chance in life, to makeup for the seven he destroyed.
His finely tuned and rather complicated plan is working perfectly, until he falls in love. To make things even more complicated, he falls in love with one of the women he has planned to help – forcing him to make some bittersweet decisions...
From the director of The Pursuit of Happyness, Gabriele Muccino (the flick where Will plays Chris Gardener, a real life homeless man turned millionaire), Seven Pounds is completely different, but still has the same life changing and thought provoking effect. You’ll watch this and will walk away talking about it for days – it’s not a movie you’ll easily forget. Definitely one to add to the must-see list this winter! Quick stats
