Can you give us a brief job description? I muck around in front of the camera.
How did you get this job? I just auditioned and gave it heeeaps.
What inspired you to get into this field? I like stories. Hearing them, making them, telling them... Stories are cool.
What is a typical week at work like for you? I’ll probably go out filming for two or three days (sometimes out of town).I’ll either be filming stuff with the other two reporters (Candice and Whata) or interviewing someone choice, then I’ll have a day or two in the office (TVNZ, Auckland) doing voice-overs, researching and brainstorming for ideas and writing scripts.
What do you enjoy about your job most of all? Meeting choice people. Best perks of the job? All access passes to MEAN music gigs.
What things do you think make your job different or fun? I get to travel around Aotearoa a lot.
What personality traits/skills/attributes help a person get a job like yours? You need to be comfortable with who you are, and comfortable to share that with your audience.
Most memorable moment of your job so far? Man that’s a hard one... Probably going back to my hometown, Raglan aka. Whaingaroa, and putting all my mates on the show. We held a bombing competition on the harbour walkway bridge. It was epic.
Any advice for nzgirls wanting to get into this field? Forget about being shy. Audition for some jobs - you learn lots from the experience and you might just crack it. Practise talking to strangers, this is a good one to do when you’re out partying - not only might you meet someone cool, but it’s a great way to practice interviewing. And of course, any studying or performing within the entertainment or broadcasting realm will go a long way. Knowledge is power.
Where would you like to go from here? Umm... Do I have to go? Haha! Nah, I’d like to produce my own show some day... Or write a wicked screenplay for a movie... Yeah that’d be choice.
