NAME: Candice Davis AGE: 20 EMPLOYER/COMPANY:I AM TV, TVNZ POSITION: Presenter
Can you give us a brief job description? I am a part of an awesome team that goes all around Aotearoa giving rangatahi a voice on TV. I’m a presenter so I get to meet a lot of them, travel heaps, experience new things and have fun presenting on camera. How did you get this job? An ad came out from I AM TV looking for a third presenter. We had to upload a video to the I AM TV Bebo page showing what we could do and offer to the show. From there I was short listed and auditioned to be on the show with a few random challenges they had for me to do, and I received the job. From Bebo to television! What inspired you to get into this field? I love talking. My whanau said I should go for it so I did, and being on TV has always been a secret desire of mine - haha.
What is a typical week at work like for you? I’m out for about three days filming and two days researching, writing scripts and doing voice over’s. Pretty cool week. And a lot of the time when I’m filming it’s in another town. YES!
What do you enjoy about your job most of all? The obvious travel, meeting people, and talking to famous as people! And working with a cool team! Best perks of the job? CLOTHING! Haha - hey I’m a chick!
What things do you think make your job different or fun? It’s us! We’re being ourselves, Maori and we meet other Maori and that to me is fun. What personality traits/skills/attributes help a person get a job like yours? Confidence to speak, do what is asked and being able to relate to other youth is really important for this job. This show is for youth by youth, not some other old person (no offence older people) telling us what they think we should do, it’s youth! And be relaxed in front of the camera. Most memorable moment of your job so far? Going to the Vodafone music awards was pretty buzzy! Any advice for nzgirls wanting to get into this field? Go for it. You want it you better go get! If you want to be a presenter…find out who you are as a presenter because people will have their opinions, so knowing who you are will make it easier to take opinions on board. Where would you like to go from here? I love music, being apart of media has opened up a lot of doors for networking and what not, because I want to be an executive music producer!
