Don’t spend a small fortune on your next skin treatment. The secret to a beautiful complexion is right there in your pantry!
These face masks are all made out of ingredients you’ll already have—and they’re good enough to eat! What’s more, all our recipes are appropriate for sensitive skin.
Before you apply a mask, start by cleansing your face and steaming it for a couple of minutes to open the pores (less time if your skin is dry, more if it’s oily). Afterwards, rinse the mask off thoroughly with warm water and pat your face dry with a towel. Follow with your favourite moisturiser. Hydrating Avocado and Honey Mask For Dry SkinYou’ll need: 1/2 an avocado, 1 tablespoon of honey (preferably manuka). Mash the avocado in a bowl until it reaches a creamy consistency, then mix in the honey. Smooth over face and leave for 10-15 minutes. It works because: Avocados are natural moisturisers. They’re rich in nutrients, including vitamins A, B, C, and E, potassium, and protein, all of which make your skin soft and smooth. Honey is amazing for your skin: it helps to retain moisture, it’s a great natural antioxidant (meaning it protects your skin from damaging UV rays), it has antibacterial properties, and it’ll combat inflammation. Exfoliating Yogurt and Blueberry Mask
For all Skin Types You’ll need: 1/2 cup blueberries, 1/4 cup honey, 1/2 cup unsweetened yoghurt. If the blueberries are frozen, thaw them gently in a microwave. Place all ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth. Apply to face and leave for 10-15 minutes. It works because: Blueberries are among the most powerful natural antioxidants. The fruit acid they contain will help to slough dirt, make-up, and dead skin cells from your face. Yogurt is a natural moisturiser which calms and refreshes tired skin, while its lactic acid tightens your pores, resulting in a softer and smoother complexion. Cooling Cucumber and Mint Mask For Oily SkinYou’ll need: 1/2 a cucumber, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, 1 tablespoon mint leaves, 1 egg white. Place all ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth. Refrigerate for 10-15 minutes, then apply to face. Leave for 10-15 minutes before rinsing off. It works because: Cucumber and lemon have a naturally astringent effect - they’ll get rid of the oil and grease on your skin.
The egg whites tighten your pores, leaving your skin feeling firm and refreshed. Mint is an anti-inflammatory which cleanses and soothes, making this a great mask for those with particularly sensitive skin. Moisturising Banana and Honey Mask For all Skin TypesYou’ll need: 1 banana, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 egg yolk, 1 tablespoon oatmeal, 1 teaspoon lemon juice. Mash the banana until smooth and creamy. Add other ingredients and mix well, then apply to face and leave for 10-15 minutes. It works because: Bananas are full of good things - magnesium, potassium, iron, zinc, iodine, as well as vitamins A, B, E, and F!
It’ll moisten and soothe your skin, while the oatmeal gently exfoliates (oatmeal is also great if you have acne). Additionally, bananas have an anti-aging effect, so use this mask if you’re worried about lines or wrinkles! Rebekah White
