Save money and help save the earth at the same time – ingenious!
Whether you have the patience to envision it or not, every little bit counts, both for your bank balance and the environment. Get started on our seven super easy tips today… Go second hand When ever you go to purchase something, have a think about whether you really need to buy it brand new. Visit TradeMe, local auctions or opshops – you’ll be surprised at the high quality of some items up for sale, and the ridiculously low asking prices! Not only does going second hand have the potential to save you some serious moolah, but you’re also helping to ease the flow of landfill waste.
Natural cleaning
Cleaning naturally doesn’t have to mean loading up on expensive, organic cleaners! Go green and do it the old fashioned way with natural cleaning products such as vinegar, baking soda and lemons! Vinegar is a great disinfectant and all purpose cleaner, lemon juice is great for dissolving stubborn grime and baking soda is a great deodorizer. Say no to pesky chemicals and forking out extra moolah unnecessarily. Your home will still sparkle and the air will be so much fresher.
Reuse plastic bags
If you haven’t quite cottoned on to the idea of using recyclable bags (which we totally recommend) at least start recycling the plastic bags you have in your home. Quit buying rubbish bags and use those bags from the supermarket to line your bins. Clever!
Buy in bulk
Buying in bulk is usually cheaper and uses less packaging, therefore less waste. An easy way to make sure you’re always well stocked.
Say no to paper towels
Paper towels are totally unnecessary – they suck up money and cause more waste! Go old school and reach for a cloth, then just chuck it in the wash when you’re done.
Borrow instead of buy
Next time you feel like watching a DVD, reading a book or magazines or even listening to a CD, head to your local library. You can borrow fab goodies for free or at least at a heavily discounted price.
Rechargeable batteries
Everyone owns a digital camera these days, and we all know how much these babies suck up the batteries. Instead of splurging money on a new set after every night out, go green and pick up a set of rechargeables and a charger. One set lasts me about a year and a half – a bargain considering it costs only $16!
