Speed Up Your Metabolism

A speedy metabolism will help to keep your body in optimum shape, both inside and out.

We all know that a person’s metabolism determines their size and ability to loose weight (when combined with other lifestyle factors), but did you know that we can speed up our metabolism with some simple changes? These will help you burn fat faster, loose weight and develop muscle tone.

Exercise!
Exercise is the most efficient way to increase your metabolism. Research shows that weight training is particularly effective. As you get older, your metabolic rate progressively slows. Concentrated exercise such as weight training awakens it again! Make sure your workouts are varied; add short bursts of high intensity moves into your cardio work out to keep your body burning fat.

Eat breakfast
Eating a healthy breakfast is proven to be an effective start
to your day and great way to increase your metabolism. Your body’s metabolism slows down overnight because of the extended period without food, so eating breakfast effectively jump starts it again. We recommend bran cereal with banana and berries or wholemeal toast - yum!

Snack
It seems hard to believe that eating more can help you loose weight but research shows that eating six small meals in a day is a great way to keep your metabolism operating. It also prevents you letting so much time lapse between meals that
you overeat. Good ideas for snacks include nuts, seeds or ricotta cheese on crackers.

Eat protein
Proteins such as lean meat and vegetables are great options for increasing your metabolism. Protein is harder for your body to break down than carbs or fats, so in absorbing them, your body burns more calories. Proteins can be included in all meals; we recommend tuna, spinach and yoghurt

Sleep well
Studies have shown that people who are sleep deprived tend to have slower metabolic rates than those who don’t. This’s because when you’re body hasn’t had the sleep it needs, it is too sluggish to process foods at a normal rate. Therefore the ability to burn calories is automatically lowered as well. Aim for eight hours a night at a minimum!

Detox
Detoxing helps to speed up your metabolism by cleansing your entire digestive system. A good detox will help remove toxins from the body, assist with sluggish liver function, gently help cleanse the bowel and stimulate blood flow to the skin surface. After a detox your metabolism will become more efficient at generating energy and eliminating wastes – hello speedy metab! Try Blackmores 10 Day Detox Program to help cleanse your body from the inside out and get your metabolism up and running.
