Planning a guest list for your big day can be a major headache if rushed into without a plan. Who to invite and who to avoid?
Sorting through all those friends, family co-workers and more can be a serious ordeal, but follow these simple steps to ensure a stress free process for you and your partner. Bring on the celebrations!
1:Decide on a number
A good starting point for you and your partner is to decide on the maximum amount of guests you want to have attend your wedding. This will depend on your budget as well as the type of wedding you want to have – large and elaborate? Or small and intimate? This number can then be divided in half – giving the bride and groom their own number to work within.
2: Identify your essentials.
Every person has the immediate people in their lives who have to take top priority. A good way to make a dent in your guest list is to start with your immediate family and friends.
3: Categorise your life The modern couple has a whole lot going on! Think of everyone you know and you will probably find that the many links you have to people come from many different places. Clear up the clutter and break your friends into groups. Write headings such as ‘Family’, ‘School’ and ‘Work’ and list your potential guests under each heading.
4: Work together
Help your partner follow the same process as you. Agreeing on guests’ is important for both of you to be able to enjoy the day! If you clash over any decisions, make a list of people who you can revisit and decide upon later.
5: Remember – it is your day! Don’t worry too much about pleasing others when compiling your guest list. It can be an awkward process, and you don’t want to offend anyone, but unfortunately, the likelihood of you having everyone you want at your wedding is slim.
The goal is to celebrate your love as a couple surrounded by those who mean the most. There is always the option of inviting those who missed out to the reception afterward or an informal wedding celebration in the days before or after the wedding. Relax and enjoy!
