What's hot in the world of music right now? Liselle gives us the lowdown with her pick of the 10 hottest songs out right now.
From slick international collaborations from the likes of TI and JT, right through to our own Savage and Baby Bash, and even totally kiwi combos courtesy of Smashproof and Gin Wigmore...
‘Dead and Gone’ TI featuring Justin Timberlake An unstoppable collaboration, it would have taken a lot for this one to go wrong. JT’s getting back in the game with smooth and infectious vocals complimenting the classic hip hop style of TI.
‘Revelry’ Kings of Leon
This cozy soft-rock track adds a touch of sweetness to the KOL’s gruff sound. With frontman, Caleb Followill, belting out woozy ‘whoo hoo hoo’s’ accompanied by whimsical guitars and shuffling drum beats, this is a more laidback track for the Kings that still manages to capture some of their original swagger.
‘My Delerium’ Ladyhawke Ladyhawke’s delivered on another uber-catchy and fun single; ripe and ready for chart domination. This cool little ditty is another stunner off the kiwi lass’ debut self-titled album, with more of her signature electro-pop soundings for your listening pleasure.
‘I Can’t Stop Being Foolish’ The Mint Chicks The Minties are back and taking over the charts already with this eclectic little number. Capturing all the energy and ‘trouble-gum-like’ antics we’ve come to both expect and desire from The Mint Chicks, ‘I Can’t Stop Being Foolish’ is a track of cheeky pop-tastic proportions.
‘Brother’ Smashproof featuring Gin More kiwis conquering the charts, newbies Smashproof and indie darling Gin have coupled up for a stunner Smashproof debut. This is a heartfelt hip-hop track with a little spin of something different coming from Gin’s unique vocals.
‘The Fear’ Lilly Allen This paradoxical song shows a more mature Lilly from her ‘Smile’ days, with a clever little tune that comments on Hollywood’s rich and famous. A more dance driven track, this is a bit of a different sound for Lilly, with its main draw the simple and innocent sounding vocals.
‘Wild Out (Chooo Hooo)’ Savage featuring Baby Bash Savage is continuing to make waves overseas with more famous names to lend to his tracks. ‘Wild Out’ is another classic club track from our very own hip hop heavy weight.
‘Hey Boys and Girls’ Evermore A change of hair and a change of style, ‘Hey Boys and Girls’ is the first offering off the kiwi boy’s brand spanking new concept album. With a bit more rock and a bit more sass, this is one of Evermore’s most interesting singles for a while.
‘My Life Would Suck Without You’ Kelly Clarkson A very classically Kelly song, the American Idol star even shows off her angsty side in a love song. It’s signature stuff that just seems to prove that Kelly Clarkson’s onto a winning combo.
‘Zero’ Yeah Yeah Yeahs Another band we haven’t heard from for a while, the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s deliver on an electro-infected and driving track. It may not exactly be the riot starter we’ve come to expect from the band, but a pretty decent return.
