Bored of the same old cocktails? Skip the daiquiris and cosmos and try something new next time you’re playing barman. The ingredient list may be a little less conventional, but these cocktails still make for a tasty treat.
Between the Trees
One of the more interesting ways to get your 5+ a day, the Between the Trees cocktail combines celery and kiwifruit for one leafy (and yet very tasty) drink. In a mixing glass, muddle one finely grated celery stick with a peeled and diced golden kiwifruit. Add all the spirits – 25mls Kiwifruit vodka, 25mls vanilla infused vodka and 10mls Muscat wine – and shake vigorously. Pour into a cocktail glass and garnish with a celery leaf.
Ab Fab
A bit of a fan of the odd vodka-cranberry? Mix it up with this tasty twist! Pour 30mls of vodka and 60mls of cranberry juice into a champagne flute. Top up with some sparkling wine and garnish with a strawberry. There you have it, one easy-peasy cocktail!
Espresso Martini
Another nice and easy drink to make, the espresso martini combines two of our (seemingly incompatible) loves – coffee and vodka. Start off by frosting the rim of a cocktail glass by rubbing it with lemon juice and coating with sugar. Half full a shaker with ice then add one shot of espresso and 25mls each of kahlua and vodka. Shake all the ingredients together and pour into the frosted glass.
Lady in Red
This devil of a cocktail uses some interesting ingredients, but to a great effect. To whip this little baby up, take 30mls of vodka, 10mls of lemon juice, 30mls of strawberry liqueur, 1 dash of egg white, 10mls of Grenadine and four strawberries and blend with ice. Serve with a strawberry to garnish and you’re done!
Maiden’s Blush
For something with a bit more pang, give the Maiden’s Blush a go. Start off by filling a shaker with ice then mix it with 45mls of gin with 15mls of both triple sec and sour mix. Add a splash of grenadine and shake well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and you have one delish (and slightly lethal) cocktail on hand!
