Love her or hate her, everyone has their very own fav Britney Spears song - even Ladyhawke and the All American Rejects! We celebrate Britney by taking a look at our fav Britney inspired remixes, from Brit Brit singles remade by bands as diverse as Travis, right through to Lilly Allen... Lilly Allen, ‘Womaniser’A slightly more sultry version with all the brat pack attitude that only Lilly Allen can pull, this little lady took the track down a notch for a more piano based track. Also in typical Lilly style, it’s a track that’s got her in a little bit of trouble. Another Britney covere-ee, Mark Ronson, leaked the track online and got Lilly in serious trouble with her record label. Turns out they weren’t so down on missing out on internet sales – whoops. Mark Ronson, ‘Toxic’ This jazzy-blues mix-up of the Britney cult classic puts some funk into the track making it a whole new kind of sexy. Not wanting to restrict himself, Mark Ronson sprinkles a whole heap of genres into the mix with the RnB styles of Dirt McGirt adding some street-wise cred. All American Rejects, ‘Womaniser’ “Why cover Britney?”, lead singer Tyson Ritter muses at the begining of the music video. “Because of it’s deep political connotations? No. It’s because we can do it better than Britney!” The All American Rejects take a whole new spin on this Britney comeback track. Cranking it with a hand organ and clanking beer bottles these joksters create a rather moody, down-tempo-ed and gypsy -vibed reindition. Tristan Prettyman, ‘Toxic’ Tristan went for a more laidback 'Toxic' vibe, swapping the flash (flashing?) dancers for a guitar. The girls got a beautiful voice and her soulful crooning brings a classy/sexy/sultry/effortless vibe to this Brit-raunched track. Ladyhawke, ‘Toxic’ 'Toxic’s' proving one popular track to cover with our very own Ladyhawke also getting in on the action. Bringing a more dramatic vibe to the track with some droning strings to add to the mix, Ladyhawke takes a harder line with her reindition.
Travis, ‘Baby One More Time’ Taking things down a notch, Travis gives ‘Baby One More Time’ the once over with an acoustic guitar giving it a more of a dramatic feel – he even gets the mean facials going. With some cutesy harmonies, a bit of falsetto and a whole lot of heartbreak, the boys take it out of the school yard and into the stadium. Rock that Britney. Britney Spears, ‘I Love Rock N Roll’ Joan Jett may have blasted her for covering her legandery track, but at least it shows ol’ Brit Brit has good taste in classic rock. The cover came about after the Crossroads movie where Britney’s character Lucy, got down and dirty with it in a Karaoke club. From here it was one of her biggest commercial failures, although it didn’t do too badly with its best placement number 13 in the UK charts. Britney Spears, ‘All That She Wants’ Putting the shoe on the other foot, Britney’s cover of old school classic 'All That She Wants' by Ace of Base is...interesting. It was nice she realised it wasn’t album material (although it magically found it’s way onto the internet) and nice she tried. All in all, it’s not a track you particularly want to take seriously, the original was bad enough, but it is good for a giggle. No Britney - not another baby! Simple Plan, ‘Baby One More Time’ Reflecting what the school yards are like these days, Simple Plan put a bit of an emo spin on Brit's high school hit. It’s a wonder the emo kids haven’t picked up on it sooner – lonlieness is killing me? Perfect whining gold. Liselle
