Kick your insecurities to the curb – now is the time to the healthy lifestyle and body that you’ve always wanted.
We asked Kath & Kim’s Magda Szubanski (better known as the outrageously awesome Sharon) who has just kicked off her own body bootcamp to finally ditch the weight troubles that have haunted her throughout her life, to share her top tips for motivation and inspiration. If Magda can do it – so can you! As the lovely lady herself says; “I want to look like a fox, because I’ve been the fat second best friend for a long time now.” 1: Set yourself goals
Having achievable milestones along the way to your big, hairy goal is very important. I’ve set myself a goal to lose a quarter of myself. I’m not sure which quarter yet, I’ll let you know. When you achieve one of your milestones you should celebrate and reward yourself. For every 2kg you lose treat yourself to a mini facial, or a pair of new shoes, how motivating is that! 2: Get out of your fat lady clothes
My fat lady clothes have been a big motivator. I want to be able to wear some nice clothes instead of oversized, badly cut, shapeless synthetic tents. Once you establish what your goal weight is, find an item of clothing that you just adore and can totally picture yourself in when you reach your target weight and use that to motivate yourself. Hang it up where you can see it and you will be wearing it in no time! 3: Be accountable to someone I am such a smarty pants. I lose weight for a while and think I am so clever and I go off the rails because I think I have it under control, when the truth is I haven’t. One of the great things about Jenny Craig is you have a consultant who keeps you motivated and on track. Being accountable to someone is very effective. Find someone such as a consultant, friend or family member, who will both monitor your weight loss and provide encouragement, even if you fall off the wagon a few times. 4: Eat yummy food Just because you are on a diet doesn’t mean you have to eat boring old rabbit food! I was terrified about the Jenny Craig food. I was thinking it was going to be a plastic cardboard lettuce leaf and I would be miserable. I couldn’t have been more wrong - it was just delicious. Get yourself a good selection of healthy recipes and or grab the Jenny Craig Healthy Living for Life cookbook which has all sorts of tasty low calorie meals, and tips for healthy eating and entertaining. Visit the Jenny Craig website for more details. 5: School yourself on nutrition Don’t just buy anything that looks green and healthy at the supermarket, you need to do your research first. Read everything you can about healthy eating habits, good nutrition and weight loss, as it’s important that you are making informed decisions about the food you are buying. Jenny Craig has shown me that sheer willpower alone hardly ever works; SkillPower is having the information, the tools and the support, learning your own patterns so you can finally get control of the eating monster that is ruining your life. “I’ve been trying to lose weight my entire life ever since I started putting on weight, when I was about 14. I have tried absolutely everything. Since joining Jenny Craig I have given myself the goal of 25 kilos and I am going to give it a red hot go. So come along and join me and let’s do this as I reckon we can.” Magda is to become the new New Zealand Jenny Craig Weight Loss Ambassador with a goal to lose 25 kilos!
