I still remember sitting down in a makeup artist’s chair, and her picking up an alarming pink powder and bringing it close to my face. Before brush was able to meet face, I managed to get out a “…No, I don’t wear blush.”
And the conversation grew from there; that day I walked out with great eyebrows, a blue shadow I bought and never used and a duo compact of blush. Because that’s how wrong I was… Don't be put off by the likes of Vanessa Hudgens (see below) shame-faced example, the right amount of blush can see you glowing and gorgeous like Kim Kardashian.
Crème, Cream and Gleam Cream is a little misleading, the blush I’m talking about is anything really that neither a stain or a powder. These come in lots of forms, from stick formulations to the cream in a pot type. Cream formulations are great for those with dryer skin and who find applying too much powder irritating. They can also be a great choice for those after a dewey, soft or ethereal finish. How to wear For a rosey glow on the cheek, smile and dab a little across where the fullness is when you smile and blend into the skin in circular motions. You can wear this type of blush with no other makeup, or apply over or under foundation. Under foundation will give a hint of a healthy glow, whilst over foundation will give a subtle hint of colour as it blends with your foundation tone. Our tip If you find the formulation a little shiny on the skin, opt for one that has a “cream to powder” finish. Giving you the soft hue and adaptability of the product but with the more traditional blush powder finish. Our picks 2: Stila Convertible colour $56.00 from Mecca 3: O Glow intuitive cheek colour $48.00 from Smashbox 4: Laura Mercier Cream Cheek colour $48.00 from Adore A Rosey Powdered Finish There are many benefits for going down the powder finish route. First and foremost, it’s a little less messy than its cream counterpart and there is something fun about using a makeup brush. And of course additional to this is the finish you get, matte and glowing. A gorgeous accompaniment to your bronzer! How to wear Run a nice round brush over your blush and be certain to get an even covering. Next you want to tap off the excess; I do this by quickly tapping the brush on the side of my hand, or by tapping the end of the brush on a table. Next smile, and apply a sweep of colour on the very apple of your cheek working from the outside in a swipe. Do the other cheek and then use your now clean brush to buff into the skin. Our tip Applied too much? Never fear, just grab your translucent powder or face powder and apply a swipe over the offending area to “tone it down”.
