The gym can be a messy place, there’s nothing worse than hopping on to a new piece of equipment and finding yourself in a puddle of someone else’s sweat. Though most gyms have their own set of rules, there are certain things that should go without saying.
So we have come up with the five rules every girl should know before hitting the gym this summer…
1: Clean up after yourself…
It’s probably something your mum used to say and it rings true at the gym as well. Always carry a towel around with you and wipe any bench or machine you use. Like I said before, finding yourself in a puddle of someone else’s sweat is not cool. If you forget to bring a towel, use any spare clothing you may have or the paper towels provided by the gym.
2: Don’t be greedy…
Seeing as gyms are usually pretty busy places, hogging the machine is not an option. If you are working out on a machine doing multiple sets, it is common courtesy to let others work out in your rest periods. It may be annoying but it is best to share whenever you can.
3: Keep the noise down…
If you are in the zone, loud chatter, mobile phones or the dropping of weights can be a big distraction. Respect others right for peace and quiet, remember the gym is not social club and not everyone is up for a chat.
4: Return the weights…
If you are using dumbbells or plates make sure you put them back where they belong. It is a pain in the bum when you can’t find the specific weight you want and you have to go searching for it. Going to the gym should not be made any harder than it already is.
5: It’s not your bathroom…
It is beyond frustrating when you have to wait to get in the shower, use the mirror or dry your hair. Most of us usually have somewhere to be so next time you think - only a couple more minutes longer - think again, because next time the shoe may be on the other foot.
