If working out has turned into a serious hassle for you, maybe it’s time to spice up your routine?
Even the most dedicated person is bound to get bored at some stage if they are constantly trudging along with the same regime day after day. We’ve got five tips to help you shake up your fitness plan, and bring back the fun, variety and excitement.
Try something new
Try a new class, exercise or sport. You might find a new passion or some skills you never knew you had. Whether it’s something out there like belly dancing, a more conventional yoga class or adding a weekly swim to your routine, mixing it up and trying new things will help bring the excitement, variety and fun back. Buy a boxing bag
Spice things up by investing in a boxing bag (you don’t have to splurge – try looking on TradeMe for your very own bargain buy) and having it installed in a room or garage. Once a week you can have your own personal boxing sessions and practise punching the bag like crazy. Boxing is a great all over workout, it works your arms, legs and even butt!
Get a workout buddy
Going out on your own can be tough – you’ve got no one else around to help push and motivate you to get going. Find a buddy who has similar fitness goals to your own and make a pact to ensure you push other to make sure you actually workout. You’re less likely to not go to the gym if you know you'll be standing your friend up! Plus it’s a great chance for a goss and a catch up!
Try a cardio circuit
Instead of just staying on the treadmill for an hour, spice things up and break your workout up into time slots. Try working on different machines for 10 minutes; you could spend 10 minutes on the treadmill, another 10 on the cross trainer, 10 on the bike and then repeat all over again. Your workout will seem shorter and you’ll get much more variety.
Make the most of nature
Try getting away from the gym now and again. A run along the beach or through your local park can be a great way to get the endorphins flowing and enjoy the beautiful weather (especially in summer) and scenery. For ideas on how to get into nature this summer click here.
