After a new way to get your body fit and fabulous? If you need extra motivation or would prefer to make exercising more social, you should give these fun and quirky exercises classes a go. From sexy pole dancing to hard core boxing, there’s bound to be something you’ll love…
Belly dancing
It’s fun and sexy, and it’s a great way to tone your body and increase your fitness levels. Belly dancing involves building body and muscle strength and control, and strengthening your abdomen and spine. Because the dancing focuses on the movement of the pelvis, benefits include the internal massage of organs and soothing of the nervous system – it’s also good for the reproductive organs! Of course it also works the abs, for those that want to work on a flat tummy.
Boxing
If you’ve got a little extra aggression or want a hard core workout, a boxing class could be just the thing for you. Don’t be scared – beginner’s classes usually don’t involve any one on one time in the ring, it’s all about circuit training and punching gym bags. The typical boxing class stimulates all the muscle groups. Punching works your biceps, hamstrings, butt and legs! It’s also great for boosting confidence. The nzgirl team tried boxing and love it. Pole dancing
This is a great way to get fit, have fun and a laugh. The classes aren’t about training you to go professional(!), but to help women get fit, increase flexibility, improve posture, tone up and improve confidence. Pole dancing builds muscle and tones; if you make the exercise regularly you can expect to see increased muscle definition in your bum, arms and thighs. Our exercise guru Julz gave Pole dancing a go for herself, check out the verdict here…
Step class Most gyms will offer a step class, which is a great way to get fit and work your body. The class involves the use of a raised platform on which you do a series of exercises. Think fun, fast paced and pumping music (my instructor has a thing for Rihanna and Justin remixes – loves!). It’s an aerobic form of exercise which works to strengthen your heart and lungs, and it also improves your blood circulation and lowers your risk of developing of heart disease.
Pilates
Challenge yourself with a pilates class! Pilates works to strengthen and tone, improve posture and relax the body. Like yoga, it also has a wellbeing aspect, with regular practice it helps to clear the mind. While it offers plenty of benefits, it also requires dedication and commitment.
