I don’t know about you but my favourite TV shows are constantly changing as television networks release more and more new material. But whatever happened to all our old favourites?
In this week’s Couch Potato we reminisce about all the oldies but goodies…
Charmed
“They are the Charmed ones.” Oh man, who didn’t love this show?! It had a bit of everything; fantasy, romance, magic, drama, comedy. It started up in 1998 and ran for eight long seasons before finally wrapping up in 2006. After eight years I suppose there weren’t many more things producers could put the Charmed sisters through!
8 Simple Rules
Released in 2003 in New Zealand, this sitcom soon became a favourite. It struck the perfect balance between humour and sincerity, following the life of Hennessy family. It only lasted three years, ending in 2005 – with Kate realising that dating the principal is okay and Bridget and Kerry also coming to terms with things themselves.
Alias
This amazing crime/action show marked the start of Jennifer Garner’s career – and boy oh boy was it addictive! It followed the life of Sydney Bristow, an international spy recruited out of college, and the effects being a spy had on her personal life. It finished in 2006, still leaving us all wanting more!
The OC
One minute it was everyone’s favourite drama, next minute ratings were down and the last season was being played out! I remember camping down with the girls on Friday nights to watch the dramas of Newport beach unfold… then all of a sudden it didn’t seem to be as good! Many people blame the drop in ratings on Marissa’s death. It wrapped up in 2007 with both Kirsten and Julie pregnant, Seth and Summer still together and Ryan falling in love with an unlikely match; Taylor.
Shows we miss the most!
Friends
This show was everyone’s favourite! I still love to watch the re-runs and part of me thinks I will never tire of it. Spanning across ten marvellous series, starting in 1994, it has plenty of material to repeat.
Seinfeld
This show started in 1990 and wrapped up in 1998 but the re-runs are still ever so popular. There is just something addictive about the neurotic Jerry Seinfeld and his equally neurotic friends.
Men in Trees
This show wrapped up after only two short seasons, much to our dismay! Relationship advice Guru Marin moved to Alaska to write her new book, and fell in love with the place (and the men!) It was funny, touching and sweet – what a pity it didn’t quite make the ratings!
