Sorry to state the obvious but there really is nothing worse than feeling like crap. Be it that time of the month, or just a bad day, we all have our moments of despair – but let’s not put up with them any longer!
We’ve come up with a few fool proof ways to uplift your mood when you’re feeling down. Print them off and keep them somewhere handy, or file them away in your positive-thinking-thought-bank – we want everyone smiling this summer, please!
Get outside
Whether it be for a brisk walk or a leisurely stroll, getting outside is great for clearing heads. Often sitting around and thinking about our problems is what gets us riled up in the first place. Go and soak up your surroundings and see other people to remind you that life is so much bigger and better than whatever you are worrying about at the time.
Have a rant
Now, I don’t mean have an in-depth D&M that leaves you feeling utterly exhausted and drained emotionally. Instead, have a five minute blow out, to anyone who is willing to listen. It will leave you feeling exhilarated and re-energised, ready to go and deal with whatever is annoying you. Often saying things out loud puts things in perspective, and also allows you to see the funny side to a situation.
Pop anthems – the trashier, the better
I’m talking about all those sing-a-longs that we love to hate. From ‘Hit Me With Your Best Shot’ to ‘Bright Eyes’ – the lyrics almost don’t matter. As long as the music is loud and dramatic, the tune is catchy and of course the singer belts soulfully at some point, then it’s a perfect remedy to any bad mood. Singing and dancing releases endorphins and in return exterminates frustration and anger. Voila!
Get reminiscing
Read over any old emails or letters from friends or family that have made you feel SPECIAL. From references to birthday cards, sometimes when we are down in the dumps all we need is a few compliments and to be reminded that someone cares. Don’t be afraid to embrace your amazing qualities; everyone needs a boost every now and then.
Do something nice for someone else
OK, I know that often when we are pissed off/annoyed/angry, the last thing we are thinking about is other people! However, doing something great for someone else – be it as small as shouting your friend a coffee or as big as deciding to sponsor a child – makes us feel happier! It’s a double whammy of goodness, a win-win situation; something that is sure to brighten up your day.
