This Weekend Try... Martinis

They say home is where the heart is and martini is where the party is, so this week we’ve found five of the best martini recipes out there!

So shake or stir things up with one of these delicious thirst quenchers this summer. Plus we’ve got two delicious martini recipes from The Pocket Idiot’s Guide to Martinis (RRO $25.00, Penguin), a must have for any martini lover!

1: Chocolate Martini
Need I say more? Refreshing, indulgent and delicious!

Ingredients
  • 60ml base spirit (vodka, light rum or brandy)
  • 15 ml chocolate liqueur
  • 15ml white creme de cacao
  • Chocolate syrup to coat rim of martini glass

Coat the rim of the martini glass with chocolate syrup. Fill a cocktail shaker ½ full of ice. Pour in spirit, chocolate liqueur and crème de cacao. Shake well, and strain into a chilled martini glass.

2: Tart and Tangy Martini

  • 2 very, very thin slices of orange

Fill a cocktail shaker ½ full of ice. Pour in gin, dry vermouth, sweet vermouth, orange juice and lime juice. Shake well, and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with orange slices.

3: Manhattan Martini

4: Vesper Martini*
What would a martini list be without the famous James Bond martini?

Ingredients
  • 90ml gin
  • 30ml vodka
  • 15ml blond lillet (an aperitif made from Bordeaux wines and liquors, with flavours of honey, orange, lime and mint, yum!)
  • Lemon Twist

Fill a cocktail shaker ½ full with ice. Pour in gin, vodka, and blond Lillet. Shake well, and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with lemon twist, voila!
