Everyone has blah days, you know, those times when you feel tired or rundown, or have a little brain melt. But who knew that feeling re-energised could be as simple as a nap and some limes?! We share our top five ways to re-energise to keep those blah days at bay for good.
1: Have a nana nap
That sly nana nap you have midday on a Friday is actually saving your career. So the next time your boss hassles you about it, be armed with the knowledge that it has been scientifically proven that a nap of just 20 minutes will enhance your mood, raise your alertness and concentration, as well as boosting your motor skills.
If you manage to squeeze in a 45 minute nap it gets even better. Your body goes into REM meaning that your creative and sensory processing is boosted as well.
2: Put on some tunes
High energy, high tempo or just plain fun music has a habit of giving people a magical second wind just when they need it most. Studies have shown that workers who listen to high tempo music were more productive and more creative. So next time you feel the 3pm sluggishness happening, put your iPod onto your favourite feel good album and feel your energy go up and the afternoon fly by.
3: Head outdoors
That cheesy line “all you need is some fresh air” is probably more accurate than you think! A little walk outdoors in the sunshine and the fresh air can be just the thing to get your day feeling a bit brighter. To get the most out of your energising wander, choose the morning or late afternoon so your energy wont be sapped by the sun, and make sure to follow up with plenty of yummy water.
4: Have a cuppa
The Brits’ were on to something with the whole love of tea thing. And this is definately a favourite in the nzgirl office. You can choose a traditional cup of tea and enjoy the invigorating effect of the caffeine, or something caffeine free but naturally energising, like green tea. If tea isn’t your thing, try drinking a glass of nice cold refreshing water. Not only will having a cup of something give you a boost, just having the mere moment break is a great way to energise.
5: Smells Good
Have a whiff of something nice to lift your mood and make you feel more awake. This can be as simple as putting on your favourite perfume, or spritz your face with some yummy rose water. If you want to get technical, there are certain scents that are proven to raise alertness like the zestyness of citrus, the twang of ginger and the smell of the ocean.
