Ever wondered how your favourite celebrities keep so fit and healthy? Aside from the personal chefs and extreme detox diets? Well most of them also partake in exercise and sports like us regular folk.
We are taking a look at some of the celebs favourite sports in hope to inspire you all to get outdoors this summer and get active.
Triathlons
J.Lo and Matthew McConaughey are just two of several celebs to complete a triathlon in Malibu recently. Triathlons are traditionally an individual endurance sports event made up of swimming, cycling and running, where each athlete is competing against each other and the clock for the best time.
There are plenty of opportunities for you to take part in an event and training for one is a great way to build up your fitness and test what you are capable of.
Surfing
Cameron Diaz’s passion for surfing began while training for Charlie’s Angels and she has been riding the waves ever since. It helps to have Kelly Slater, an eight-time world champion surfer as a mate but is not a necessity if you want to get into it yourself. There are plenty of surf schools around New Zealand with qualified instructors to help get you started.
Running
Reese Witherspoon took to running after a stressful divorce from Ryan Philippe and is now looking better than ever. It is one of the best and most accessible activities you can do to keep healthy; all you need is a good pair of running shoes and a place to run. And it is a great way to burn extra calories.
It is recommended you start slowly and it takes time to build up endurance but if you stick with it you could be running marathons in no time. It is about setting yourself goals and only doing what you feel comfortable with. Don’t push yourself too hard!
Golf
Justin Timberlake dreams of one day taking part in the PGA Tour with the likes of Tiger Woods but you don’t have to be male or a celebrity to enjoy the sport. Golf is the highest participation sport in New Zealand and is ranked the number two sport for women. We have 419 golf courses around the country, which is the second highest number of courses per capita in the world, so there is no excuse not to get outdoors this summer and try it yourself.
