nzgirl Picks: Our Fav Detox Guides

In need of a boost or total life makeover? We’ve gone through and picked out our fav detox guides to help you cleanse, revive, purify and de-clutter your life for the better!

All of these books will help you detox some aspect of your life, without shelling out large for a detox retreat or life coach. So, what are you waiting for? Get rid of whatever nasties are holding you back now! We’re also giving you the chance to win some of our favs, so read on to find out how you could nab one for yourself…

Stress Relief To Go
Jonathon Hilton
What they say: “Do you suffer from anxiety, worry, poor sleep, exhaustion or high stress levels? Whatever your problem, Stress Relief to Go will help you work out the root causes of your stress and offers quick-fix techniques to help you de-stress your life…”
What we say: This guide book is comprehensive and bursting with information on how to identify and bust any serious stress causers within your life. With easy to follow step-by-step techniques that you can adapt to suit your own individual lifestyle and tips on how to ditching all those bad habits that ultimately lead to stress.
Our favourite tip: If you’re having problems sleeping because of something specific that’s stressing you out, such as a problem at work, try targeted visualisation. Visualise a successful resolution to the situation every night before drifting off to sleep.

Love Smart: Find the one you want – fix the one you got
Dr Phil McGraw
What they say: “There are no exceptions: There is somebody for everybody, and everybody deserves a relationship filled with love and excitement. Love Smart: Find the one you want – Fix the one you got offers you the plan to find not just any relationship but the committed, loving, joy filled relationship you have been waiting for.”
What we say: Dr Phill’s guide covers everything from the “types” of people you get in relationships, the inns and outs of internet dating, to discovering your authentic self. Every piece of advice is given with a holistic point of view in mind. Look at yourself, look at your partner, and look at how you and your partner interact, find issues and solve them. I went in wildly sceptical, and I came out surprised. If you’re after advice, this is a good place to start looking.
Our favourite tip: “Robin and I have a four minute rule. The minute I walk through the door at the end of the day, I go and find her. Say hello and talk about our day. Those four minutes count. They set the tone for the rest of the evening. Try doing this yourself, it will make a difference.”

Detox, 100 natural ways to cleanse and purify
Carol Morley and Liz Wilde
What they say: “This vibrant little life guide gives you the lowdown on spring cleaning your body inside and out. There are no gimmicks, just simple and practical ways to restore your natural sparkle.”
What we say: This handbag size book is perfect for taking any where and every where, and like it promises, it’s loaded with fantastic little tips on cleansing and detoxing your body, mind and life, inside and out. The tips are super practical and realistic – it makes completely detoxing your life, whether it’s your skin, your home or your immune system, totally doable.
Our favourite tip: Take an odourless garlic table each and every day and you’ll never catch a cold again. It’s also reported to slow down the ageing process; it’s much cheaper than a pot of anti-wrinkle cream!

10 – Minute Facelift, Lessen the signs of ageing the natural way
Tessa Thomas
What they say: “If you resent spending a fortune on potentially harmful synthetic beauty creams or are squeamish about cosmetic surgery, defy the ageing process with these easy steps for a firm and radiant complexion.”
What we say: Beautiful skin and a healthy body doesn’t require spending loads of money on fancy spas, creams and lotions. This book recommends kicking it old school – use natural oils on your skin, facial muscle exercises, eat more veggies and fruit and you’ll notice the difference without spending any extra money. Love the concept!
Our favourite tip: A relaxing bath loaded with Epsom salts will help remove toxins and stimulate the circulation. Soak in the bath for 10-15 minutes and then massage yourself with a loofah or bath mitt, then hop out and dry yourself briskly.

Confidence Boosters, 10 steps to beating self-doubt
Martin Perry
What they say: “This practical book is for anyone whose natural talent and abilities are hampered by self-doubt. It provides a clearly structured route to building confidence and self-esteem both at work and in social situations.”
What we say: If you’re lacking in confidence this book will help give you the basic tools you need to come out of your shell and shine. It’s filled with helpful tips on overcoming self doubt, becoming more assertive, developing social skills and finding peace with yourself – after all, it’s good to be you! If you need a boost, reach for this book!
Our favourite tip: Remember that you can’t have success without the possibility of failure.

If You Want Closure in Your Relationship Start With Your Legs
Big Boom
What they say: “This unique guide will show women not only how to find true love with Mr. Right, but also how to avoid Mr. Never-Gonna-Happen, Mr. Infidelity and a variety of other Mr. Wrongs.”
What we say: I started off this book wondering why I should be listening to the advice of Mr. Big Boom at all – apparently he’s a relationship expert because he’s been married for 15 years and was a celebrity bodyguard?! That said there are a few jewels of wisdom in here packaged in a strangely humorous manner. Even if you don’t completely agree with everything Mr. Boom has to say, at least you will come out of reading this with an opinion!
Our favourite tip: “Bringing old baggage into a new relationship can turn the new relationship into a long journey…”

The ultimate Weight solution Cookbook: Recipes for weight loss freedom
Dr Phil Mcgraw
What they say: “The thing about all these recipes is that they are delicious, healthy and easy to prepare. Even the snacks and desserts are great!”
What we say: This offers a great deal of recipes that allow you to learn about nutrition while being fed in tasty ways. The beginning of the book has a comprehensive guide on what should be in your kitchen and what shouldn’t, along with tips for cutting back the fat. If you’re looking to loose weight or learn about nutrition this book is a definite kitchen must have.
Our favourite tip: “Promise yourself that you will try at least one new vegetable per week for the next month. Expand your food repertoire, just to prove you can do it.”
