Sexy Summer Skincare Tips

The time has come where you can no longer cover up a winter of skin neglect with layers and opaque stockings...

So let’s rejoice summer by getting sexy summer skin, just in time for the sunshine! Anya shares her top ten tips for summer skincare success, from our favourite prep products to easy routes to summer smooth skin!

Buff the tough
Slough away dead skin and unsightly imperfections with your favourite body scrub. My favourites have to be sugar and salt scrubs which are incredibly effective at revealing fresh smooth skin. Choose one that is packed with ingredients like jojoba oil, vitamin E or coconut oil, which all help to seal in moisture once the exfoliation is done. Not only does a good buff make your skin smooth and supple, it also helps improve circulation and help prevent ingrown hairs.

Hair not there
Having smooth legs to me spells summer (I may or may not be a bit lazy about this over winter). And for ease of use and practicality it’s hard to go past the Venus Embrace Razor, make sure you exfoliate gently before and use a moisturising shave foam or gel to help make sure you get a great smooth, and nick-free shave. Don't work over a strip of skin more than once, and follow up your shave with a great moisturiser.

2: Gillette Venus Embrace shaving system RRP $15.99 from Gillette stockists

Get moisture rich
The more moisturising goodies your favourite moisturiser has, the better your skin will be. As you prep winter skin for summer pamper your skin with extra oils, to prevent drying. Whilst in the throws of summer, the heat and sun will mean your skin needs the extra moisture. I’m a big fan of using a skin oil post bath or shower in the evening, and then using a nice rich cream during the day.

3: Memories Body oil $37.50 from Linden Leaves

Embrace Being Bronze
Even if your tanned moment lasts only a week, the effect of starting off the summer with a bit of bronze on the skin is hard to beat. I’m one of those people who loves to add just a dash of fake tan into her favourite moisturiser to get a hint of summer sun on the skin. To guarantee an even tan, make sure your skin is in top condition first and foremost and apply your fake tan carefully and in daylight. Also make sure you are regimented with your moisturising routine afterwards, to make sure your tan stays looking natural and you get no “fake tan cracking” happening – eek!

4: Clarins Self Tanning cream RRP $48.00 from Clarins

Avoid Sore Sunburn
There is nothing worse than horrible itchy sunburn to ruin your summer skin. And whilst we are all about being sun safe (more on that later) we are all prone to mistakes. Make sure that if you do get burnt that you put in place the best aftercare possible. Cool your skin to stop the burn with a cold shower, and then smooth a skin soother like after sun cream or aloe vera in.

5: Aveeno Soothing Bath treatment $18.50 from Aveeno stockists

Reach for sun care
Working sun care into your skincare regime is one of the easiest things you can do to protect your skin, and something that’s not nearly as hard as it sounds. Swap out your favourite foundation for a great tinted moisturiser that just happens to be SPF 30 and you are more than half the way there.

6: md Formulations True All Day moisture spf30+ $55.00 from Adore Beauty

Get rid of the things that make you go – hrrm
Hairy legs? Reach for your Venus Embrace. Ceullite? A body brush and intense massage post shower is a great step for you. Scars? Massage in Bio Oil. One of the big ones I hear about most often is Keratosis Palaris or chicken skin, which forms bumps on the back of your arms and legs. If you are after a solution the following product is a good bet, I’ve heard only good things about it!

7: KP Duty Moisturising treatment $85.00 from DERMAdoctor stockists

Embrace the weekly massage
Massages don’t have to be a big deal, in fact a weekly massage can help stimulate blood circulation promoting brighter more radiant skin, helping to alleviate conditions such as ceullite and just making you feel so much better about your skin.

8: Therapy Massage bar $16.90 from Lush

Turn your daily shower into a spa
If you are the kind of person that is less likely to be fitting a weekly massage in, or going out and snapping up some great summer skincare products then at least make your daily shower a spa like experience. It can be as simple as using a moisturising body wash, or giving your skin the occasional in shower treatment.

9: Dove Body Wash Fresh Touch body wash $7.40 from Woolworths online

Drink lots of water
What would a list of tips about getting summer ready skin be without a water inclusion! Keep a great water bottle handy with you at all times to make it easy for you to get your eight glasses a day. Not a water person? Try adding a slice of lemon or kiwi fruit, or investing in a water purifier to make your water easier to drink.

10: Waiwera Still water $3.24 from Woolworths online
