October 17 – 31 is CanTeen’s annual Bandanna Appeal! Gorgeous girl and star netballer Maria Tutaia, is an official CanTeen ambassador.
This year’s she’s showing her support for CanTeen by designing a super cute bandanna with Canteener Katie Coxon. We asked Maria to give us a sneak peek through all her fav local hot spots within her hood of Mt Albert, Auckland…
1: Taylor Street Dairy I used to always look forward to the end of school because my father would always take me there for a wee treat everyday. My favourite were the milk toffees – 20c back in the primary school days. I’ve moved from the area now but I pop in when I’m there. 2: Lynnmall Shopping Centre Do I need to explain?? This is where it all started – where I discovered shopping! I still go there and love to have a hot chocolate and a browse.

3: Chaucer Primary School Coolest school ever! I loved my primary school years, and I did all my primary schooling there. I’m the youngest of seven, I was the last one, known as the baby of the family and no one could touch me. Great teachers and a good kiwi primary school.
4: Village 8 Cinema's (no longer exists now) This was the hangout back in the day. Where the cool kids would hang out in the weekend and school holiday's (I hope I was classified s 1 of the cool kids haha). I can remember my mum Mum taking us to the movies – her movies, her choice – and being dragged from Time Out into the Theatre reluctantly and us leaving at the end bawling our eyes out!
5: Geogie pie (no longer exists) Yum, yum! Way better than McDonald's! The steak and cheese pie was my favourite. Mum and Dad would take us every Wendesday and every Friday after school. Those were our ‘Georgie Pie Days’.
Show your support for young people with Cancer by picking up a bandanna of your very own in stores for only $4 or online here for only $5 (includes delivery). Other designers include Federation and Dan Carter – so be in quick!
