Go gallery hopping! Make it a goal to go to an art exhibition monthly. I always think about doing it but hardly every get around to it, unless I randomly stumble across an art gallery while shopping! But every time I have walked into an exhibition, I’m always glad I did. They inspire and encourage creatives with their own personal art and they are a great way to see what people around you are creating.

Check out New Zealand artist Neal Palmers ‘Say It with Flowers’ exhibition on at SOCA Gallery, 74 France St, Newton, Auckland from October 28 – November 11. Neal creates breathtakingly large paintings combining the images of abstracted native flora with geometric patterns. His exhibition would be a great start to your new-found regular exhibition experiences. You can even attend the opening on Tues October 28th 6-8pm at the Gallery. Go for it! | Music: Reb Fountain - Holster www.rebfountain.co.nz Design really gets me going on a CD cover, I’ve even bought CD’s based on the cover art. I was stoked to find that the gorgeous Reb Fountain CD not only looked good, but sounded great too. Reb, a kiwi singer/songwriter, has created an album with an eclectic mix of soft, beautiful melodies with fresh funky beats all thrown in together and churned around. All you ‘girls with guitars’ fans will love her, and anyone with a true heart for the NZ music will adore her. Reb is playing a couple of gigs throughout NZ this month, for more info click here.

While the physical challenges of Bauby’s fate leave him with little hope for the future, he begins to discover how life’s passions, his rich memories and his new-found imagination can help him achieve a life without boundaries. | | | | | | | | | Movie: Be Kind Rewind Screening at Rialto from 18 October Jerry (Jack Black) is a deranged and paranoid dreamer whose wacky scheme to sabotage the local power substation results in an almighty zapping. When Jerry pops into the corner video store run by his friend Mike (Mos Def), his magnetised brain erases their entire stock. In order to satisfy the store's most loyal renter, the two friends set out to remake the lost films, starting, with Ghostbusters, and progressing to Rush Hour II, The Lion King, and many more. Pretty soon, punters are queuing around the block for Mike and Jerry's amateur remakes. Hilarious! Click here to see the trailer.
| | | | | | | | | The 1000 Journals project One of the best ideas when giving someone a card, is to well, not give them a card but sign a book instead. Anya ‘s creative little mind organised this for me on my last full-time day at nzgirl, and I’m so thankful as it introduced me to The 1000 Journals Project. The author decided to distribute 1000 blank journals by leaving them around San Francisco, in cafes, bathrooms and on the bus. Each included instructions for each participant to contribute something to the journal, pass it on and send it back. This then resulted in the book holding a collection of many of the submissions - it’s pure design candy. Click here to read more about it.
